The Y of Middle TN is searching for a cause-driven leader to serve as Assistant Director of Retreats and Events in beautiful Nashville, TN!

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Retreats and Events Director, the Assistant Director of Retreats and Events is responsible for assisting with all aspects of booking, setting up, and running retreats and events.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Interact effectively with the camp staff and guests to uphold “Campers and Guests First Philosophy”
  • Assist in ensuring inclusion in programs at Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center year-round
  • Work directly with the Retreat and Events Director in overseeing the daily activities, scheduled events, general camp operations, and programs to ensure the highest quality camp
  • Guide and direct guests, participants, and staff in a variety of camp activities to oversee character and skill development
  • Ensure programs are delivered to all guests in a safe, fun, magical and efficient environment
  • Know, understand, train, and execute all camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the Joe C. Davis Outdoor Center
  • Create, implement and grow extended season programs including but not limited to family, teen and parent/child programs producing new revenue streams
  • Communicate programming and set-ups to group leaders and program goals of overnight groups to department heads
  • Ensure that all program area schedules are completed and communicated satisfactorily in a timely manner
  • Coordinate the schedules, room set-ups, catering and logistics for camps, businesses, schools, and other organizations.
  • Work with special events, promotion, rainy day programs, overnights, extended care and any other special needs as they arise
  • Communicate with group leaders to ensure that each guest and client has a pleasant experience and their goals and purpose was adequately met
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and supervise staff
  • Assist with post-event evaluation process for feedback and growth opportunities
  • Work with the Retreats and Events Director to construct and manage measurable fiscal responsibilities
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with other staff
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or equivalent required; two years of college preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
  • Superior supervisory skills and an enthusiastic personality with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, members and participants to create a culture of service within our Centers
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work on a team and willingness to work outdoors
  • Ability to understand the needs of participants and to place these needs ahead of his/her own
  • Ability to think in the abstract, solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate, lead others
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Experience supervising staff preferred

Required Certifications

  • Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation Certification
  • Within 30 days of hire:Basic Life Support, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen
