The Aquatics Director is responsible for the planning, coordination, administration, fiscal management and growth of the Aquatics Department. This entails the delivery of mission-oriented programs of the highest quality.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Direct and supervise the aquatic staff to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA strategic goals.
  • Manage and supervise aquatic programs including swim lessons, the swim team and coaches, complying with all Y standards and safety procedures.
  • Create and lead a culture that provides an excellent participant experience by leading quality programs and services.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate lifeguards, instructors and volunteers for the aquatic department retaining efficient and effective staff
  • Schedule swim instructors and adequate lifeguard coverage and manage the execution of pool functions.
  • Develop and maintain annual budget for the aquatic department.
  • Lead site-specific events and assist in special event planning as necessary
  • Provide leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and other volunteer committees as assigned.
  • Professionally represent the YMCA through relationships with other community organizations and businesses.
  • Provide updates and program schedules to the Executive Director, Marketing Director and others as necessary.
  • Implement and maintain policies and procedures for pool safety and staff responsibilities ensuring that program areas and equipment are well maintained.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and at YMCA leadership meetings and trainings
  • Hold quarterly in-house aquatic department staff meetings.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • At least one year of staff supervision experience including one evaluative cycle and demonstrated ability to positively develop and support exceptional performance
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of swim skills in accordance with YMCA standards
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with individuals at all levels and manage difficult situations and resolve differences
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and strong verbal and written skills
  • Have CPR and first aid,
  • Have or obtan LGI certification, CPR and first aid instructor certifications, pool operator’s certification and YMCA swim instructor trainer certification.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $33,000.00 - $35,000.00
