Somerset County and Plainfield YMCA has a solid career opportunity for an aquatics professional. We are currently seeking an Associate Aquatics Director to oversee the day-to-day operations of our 20,000 square foot aquatics facility housing a 10-lane, 25y x 25m competitive pool located at our Bridgewater, NJ branch and support aquatics programming at our Somerville, NJ branch location.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, you would help to improve and develop quality programs. You would be responsible for the scheduling and supervision of Lifeguards and Deck Supervisors and assist the Aquatics Director in overseeing Swim Instructors to include training/certification, skills assessment, hiring, supervision, and scheduling, etc. You would also ensure a safe environment by keeping pools and decks clean at all times, conduct swim evaluations, serve as Lifeguard and Swim Instructor when needed. The position requires a Sunday through Thursday work week with the flexibility to work evenings and other weekend hours as required in this environment.

Skills/Experience: 
  • To be successful in this position a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Lifeguard and Swim/or Aquacise Instructor is required and at least one (1) year as a Deck Supervisor
  • Some supervisory experience is strongly preferred, along with a BS in Recreation, Physical Education, Heath Science, or a related field
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office and scheduling software is a key as well
  • Strong administrative, communication and human relations skills are required
  • Required certifications include: American Red Cross Lifeguard
  • It is a plus if you have knowledge of the NJ Bathing Code and/or a Pool Operator Certification
