The Sterling Center YMCA is seeking a seasoned Head Coach to lead our star athletes on the North Shore Wildcats team. In this role the Head Coach has oversight and accountability for the growth, staffing and management of team coaches as well as the overall progression and development of youth gymnasts. Key accountabilities for this role include: scheduling practices, rotations, and gymnastics team meets; providing regular and effective communication with staff, participants, and parents; delivering high-quality coaching and skill development; support the transition of non-competitive program participants to team level; developing and choreographing floor routines; onboarding and training coaches; growing the numbers of gymnasts and impact of the team. The incumbent will be a critical member of the gymnastics staff attending competitions and team practices. A flexible schedule throughout the competitive season is necessary.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide instruction and guidance through Coaching youth and team gymnastics
  • Ensure age and developmentally appropriate coaching is carried out and modified based on individual needs
  • Support the growth of team programming through collaboration with recreational gymnastics instructors
  • Teach youth and teen recreational classes to promote Xcel team participation
  • Teach youth and teen recreational classes to bridge the gap between program and team participation
  • Assist in training and orienting new teachers and coaches to the team
  • Cultivate long-lasting relationships with members, program participants, and families
  • Create a safe environment for everyone in the gymnastics center and support the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility
  • Communicates effectively and is responsive to participants and parents/guardians
  • All other duties as directed or required for the overall success of the organization
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have prior experience coaching gymnasts up through level 10.
  • General knowledge of Xcel or JO compulsory code of points
