The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for transitioning support from the current AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator to the AmeriCorps Year Two Volunteer Coordinator, which includes creating a training program, introducing them to current partners, instructing them on previous and upcoming Virginia volunteer programs and activities, and supporting other volunteer programs and activities within the Virginia Chapter
The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for creating a training program to introduce the AmeriCorps Year Two Volunteer Coordinator to the Virginia Chapter’s volunteer initiatives in stewardship, conservation, science, and other program areas. They will guide the AmeriCorps Member on how to coordinate projects, how to maintain and improve volunteer tracking and databases, and how to work with collaborators. They will write and edit training materials. They will supervise programs and events, including preserve work projects and public outreach. They will recruit volunteers and ensure continuity and quality of all volunteer programs. The Coordinator will work cooperatively with Conservancy staff and members, as well as partner organizations, agencies and businesses.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Train AmeriCorps Year Two Member
- Coordinate multiple projects with several variables, setting realistic deadlines and managing a timeline;
- Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information;
- Purchase equipment and supplies as provided for in budget;
- Identify routine problems and utilize existing resources for resolution;
- Make day-to-day decisions within the scope of work assignments;
- May supervise administrative staff and/or volunteers, interns, or temporary staff;
- Work independently without requiring detailed management review of general work;
- Travel extensively for several days at a time and undertake evening and weekend work, as needed; and
- Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and physical exertion and/or strain.
- Experience as AmeriCorps Member;
- Experience in organizing and managing a volunteer program with the Virginia Chapter;
- Experience working with Virginia Chapter partners such as Fairfax County Park Authority, James River Park System and City of Charlottesville;
- Experience managing diverse activities to meet deadlines; and
- Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated;
- Ability to analyze information for the purpose of preparing reports, coordinating efforts, and solving problems;
- Ability to write and edit written materials for use with member communications and special events;
- Demonstrated knowledge of the structure and needs required by a volunteer program;
- Database management skills with ability to produce reports;
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; and/or
- Supervisory experience.
