Under the supervision of the Senior Member Engagement Director and in collaboration with the Member Engagement Team and Branch Leadership, the Healthy Living Director fulfills the YMCA of the Triangle Area and local branch vision for member engagement and quality programming in the areas of Wellness, Group Exercise, Personal Training and Evidence-Based Impact Programs. This position is responsible for managing those functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the Board of Directors, governing committees, and administrative staff of the YMCA of the Triangle Area.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides leadership in realizing the vision set by the YMCA of the Triangle Area Program Guidelines for the Healthy Living Department - Wellness, Group Exercise and Personal Training Programs and Evidence-Based Impact Programs.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Responsible for onboarding and developing them for success.
  • Has full responsibility for maintaining delivery of high-quality wellness programs through staff.
  • Ensures that all staff are remaining current with certifications necessary for the positions they hold
  • Responsible for all Healthy Living Department administrative duties including but not limited to payroll and staff/program scheduling for all areas of supervision.
  • Responsible for budget development and implementation.
  • Regularly evaluates wellness and group exercise programs to provide high-level service to our members.
  • Ensures member engagement by connecting members to personalized wellness experiences.
  • Teaches group water and land exercise classes as needed.
  • Functions as a Wellness Coach on the wellness floor as needed.
  • Leads and assists with monthly association initiatives and membership appreciation events and serves as a member of the Branch Member Engagement Team.
  • Serves as part of the Director Team, which includes working evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Provides leadership for the Annual Campaign by leading staff and volunteer teams to meet set goals.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in fitness, health, management or a related field preferred and/or 1-2 years of experience in a related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Possess the appropriate certifications and training in order to teach and direct a variety of wellness programs.
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly, work under stressful conditions on a regular basis, and take the responsibility for the health and safety of others.
  • Be experienced and passionate about member engagement and developing member wellness goals.
  • Professional, courteous and friendly, with a high level of initiative and an ability to be a self-starter.
  • Excellent communication skills, exceptional organizational skills, and able to respond appropriately in a dynamic, fluid environment.
  • Highly relational, demonstrate strong leadership ability as well as an understanding of quality programming.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.
  • Possess or work towards obtaining a Personal Training Certification and Group Fitness Certification within the first six months of employment.
  • Must have and maintain current certifications in CPR and First Aid.
  • Experience with MOSSA or Les Mills and an ability to teach a variety of group exercise formats.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and have the ability to drive.
  • Occasional travel, including overnight, may be necessary.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,679.00
