Under the direction of the Executive Director, and in accordance with Association policies, the Sports Director is responsible for the leadership and advancement of the strategies for the Branch’s Sports Department. This position will oversee the development and implementation of innovative curriculum and activities, supervise, guide and develop staff to ensure that participant’s development occurs in a fun, healthy and safe environment, and ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved.

- Ensures that daily care of members, teens and families is a key priority through supervision of staff and volunteers in accordance with the organization’s policies, mission and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in the Sports Department at Wolf Creek YMCA.
- Lead all Sports programming by providing direction, leadership, support, and efficiencies for team members through strategic planning, administrative standardization, registration, quality standards, and risk management.
- Understands and fully participates in the Y-Improvement model for his/her branch as well as any assigned Association initiatives. Will ensure data within the Y-Improvement model is accurate and up to date. Will be accountable for meeting or exceeding target conditions related to his/her areas of responsibility.
- Lead activities, external programs, staffing and follow annual standards that achieve outcomes, which are reviewed and verified through audits, surveys and follow-up.
- Collaborates with Branch Leadership and staff to ensure excellence and consistency in service through daily care of members, program participants and volunteers.
- Champion program curriculums, development, staffing and set annual standards that achieve programmatic outcomes and are reviewed and verified through audits, surveys, and on-site visits.
- Serve as a staff liaison to Branch Executive concerning their branch Sports Department programs and trainings.
- Act as a mentor to Wolf Creek staff. Ensures staff are trained and prepared to achieve the desired program outcomes.
- Responsible for strict adherence to and annually reviews all Sports Department program policies and procedures related to safety and conduct rules and other regulations; current CPR, First Aid, First Responder training.
- Role Model strong fiscal stewardship through the development and monitoring of budgets and forecasting.
- Requires flexible hours to work evenings and weekends.
- Any other duties as assigned by Branch Executive Director.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education/experience would be preferred but not necessary.
Skills/Experience:
- The Sports Director must possess 2-4 years’ experience in sports program development and management as well as experience in working with children of all ages.
- He/she should have a positive history of leadership in the areas of staff, program development, fiscal budgeting and management, and operational procedures.
- Proven ability to display initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently is required.
- Able to demonstrate written and verbal communication skills; public speaking, capacity to prepare reports, conduct training programs, create policies and guidelines, proven financial development experience and skills.
- Will possess competent computer skills in the Windows environment.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $26,000.00 - $29,000.00
