We seek a Vice President of National Community Alliances to lead our National Community Alliances team and drive our external engagement with national civil rights and aligned organizations. You will manage and support the leadership of Alliance and Initiative owners, who are highly independent and visionary senior leaders and help define the long-term vision, strategy and operating plan of the National Community Alliances team.
In partnership with the Senior Vice President of Public Partnerships and the National Community Alliances team, you are responsible for determining overall broad team strategy and revisiting the charge and priorities of the team given current capacity, differentiated organizational and initiative needs and priorities, and our overall Public Partnerships team charge.
The Vice President will report directly to the SVP, Public Partnerships.
The Vice President, National Community Alliances will be responsible for:
Manage and serve as an advisor, coach and thought partner to each alliance owner and their constituency
- Set expectations for, motivate, and develop a team of five high-performing individuals
- Work side by side with our alliance and initiative owners so that they are ready to take on the next level of leadership in their careers
- Support the professional development and team-wide learning of NCA team members by acting as their manager, coach and thought partner
- Advise on strategies to progress NCA workstreams internally and externally
Set vision and direction for engaging the diverse civil rights community, including advocacy groups, policy organizations, and media outlets. Develop and carry out a strategic plan to accomplish this vision, including:
- Representing TFA externally (or prep CEO or surrogate to engage) on panels/conferences/engagements
- Identify/plan/attend key conferences hosted by civil rights orgs
- Have frequent visibility at civil rights-focused events
- Identify CEO speaking opportunities
- Keeping 5-10 priority organizations to build relationships & partner with (e.g., LCCR, NAACP, CDF, etc.)
- Conduct visits to regions and institutes with civil rights influencers to engage them in TFA’s work
- Support CEO in relationship building with key civil rights stakeholders and manage critical relationships of your own accord
- Identifying funding & board leadership opportunities with national development team and supporting all cultivation, stewardship, and engagement efforts
Add significant strategic capacity to the National Community Alliances Team
- Set vision and direction alongside the National Community Alliances Team
- Work to ensure that the Alliance owners are clearly aligned with this work and the priorities and that the team priorities as a whole reflect the targets/strategies/best bets for action
- Support an internal strategy and advocacy to ensure strong team-wide results
- Support team-wide structures for intersectional collaboration and strategy across team and the organization
- Represent the National Community Alliances on the Public Partnerships leadership team
- In addition to managing the Alliance and Initiative owners, manage one of the team associates, who provides operational support to the broader team’s objectives
Create and foster strong internal communications that build team culture and create joy and excellence in the work
- Create and share resources to support excellence and joy in the work; facilitate the collaboration, information-sharing, and celebration between and among team members
- Be a culture leader who models our core values and operates with flexibility and an entrepreneurial spirit
- Minimum 8-10 years professional experience
- Previous management experience required
- Previous demonstrated ability and experience with leading diversity, equity, and inclusion work through intersectional frameworks
- Previous strategic leadership experience a plus
- Demonstrated ability to lead across multiple lines of difference with intersectional strategy
- Poise, confidence, and maturity interacting with key stakeholders, with the ability to build strong relationships and work with people at all levels, internally and externally
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and to consistently meet ambitious deadlines and goals
- Exceptional strategic and critical thinking skills

Work Demands
- Ability to travel regularly (1-2 times monthly during low seasons, 3-4 times monthly during peak seasons)
