The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Procurement Manager oversees WWP’s strategic procurement initiatives, manages vendor relationships, and oversees WWP procurement activities including inventory, purchasing, shipping & receiving, and mail processing. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage inventory, purchasing, shipping, receiving, and mail processing activities. Manage all aspects of the supply chain and notify senior management team of any obstacles to ideal efficiency.
  • Develop and execute new, improved procurement strategies across all channels of spend.
  • Lead and manage a team of procurement, inventory, warehouse, and mail personnel. Mentor them and develop their skills and abilities. Promote a supportive working environment where team members are encouraged to proactively address issues and solve problems. Manage both team and individual performance to achieve goals.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the work of procurement, inventory, warehouse, and mail personnel. Balance Procurement team’s workload by overseeing purchasing assignments for the team.
  • Provide guidance to Procurement teammates on procurement issues and advise on appropriate and effective sourcing strategies.
  • Ensure procurement policies and procedures are implemented properly. Ensure WWP’s purchasing is completed through formal, controlled processes and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Recommend changes to management for improvements to procurement policies and procedures.
  • Ensure purchasing, receiving, inventory, and shipping procedures reflect sound financial practices and meet WWP’s needs.
  • Ensure inventory levels are replenished when stock is low. Oversee procurement of inventory items to established stocking levels. Forecast inventory usage, create costing models, and provide regular updates to department leadership.
  • Perform financial analyses for purchases and renewal decisions, based on contract terms and business inputs, in advance of contract expiration.
  • Review requisitions, specifications, and statements of work for requested goods and services.
  • Determine method of procurement, e.g., direct purchase or bid. Prepare and issue requests for information/quotes/proposals (RFI/RFQ/RFP).
  • Identify qualified vendors for sourcing requirements. Work with vendors to obtain product and service information, i.e., price, availability, and delivery options.
  • Review vendor proposals and price quotes, and plan source selection process. Lead teammates through vendor evaluation and selection, adhering to fair, equitable procurement practices. 
  • Negotiate contract commercial terms and conditions including price and delivery schedule. Work with WWP Legal to draft, negotiate, and implement agreements to ensure contract compliance.
  • Maintain records of all quotes, purchases, and approved vendors.
  • Monitor vendor performance including product and service quality, contract compliance, on-time deliveries, invoicing, and corrective action responses. Serve as liaison between vendors and internal departments to resolve procurement-related issues. Maintain effective internal cross-departmental relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business or related field. Equivalent combination of education, experience, training, and certification may be considered in lieu of degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated working experience as a procurement manager, procurement officer, or head of procurement.
  • Proven people management skills with ability to match workload to individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively negotiate with vendors and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform cost and pricing analyses.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking skills and analytical skills, troubleshoot, identify viable options, and effectively problem solve.
  • Strong interpersonal skills build effective working relationships with team members. Effectively interact with internal and external customers.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner. Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency using Microsoft Office, especially Excel with expertise in data manipulation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of major financial platforms, e.g., Great Plains.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High energy level. Self-starter; willing to take initiative and work independently to accomplish tasks and assignments.

  • Seven years of purchasing experience in a corporate environment.
  • Five years of inventory management experience.
  • Five years of vendor management experience.
  • Three years of staff management experience.
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.

Preferences

  • Three years of experience working with Great Plains.
  • Three years of inventory tracking experience.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) preferred.
