This AmeriCorps position serves with The Nature Conservancy over an 11-month period to advance our work in improving private and public lands by providing outreach and education strategies by coordinating volunteers to help provide outreach to local communities and provide environmental education experiences. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Stewardship and Outreach Coordinator implements community outreach and stewardship strategies that effectively communicate The Nature Conservancy's conservation messages and research and monitor its conservation strategies and community-involvement efforts. 

  • Assists in developing educational and stewardship program content;
  • Removes exotic species and/or monitors and researches species
  • May organize volunteer events to engage local participants to bag oyster shells, treat invasive species, plant native plants, etc. 
  • May produce publications, materials to promote and increase stakeholder awareness (not fundraising) and engagement;
  • Establishes and develops collaborative relationships with local fishers, universities, state/local agencies and corporations that are involved in environmental and community education to promote, expand and implement The Nature Conservancy's initiatives;
  • Recruit, train and manage community volunteers to assist in development of community programs;
  • Manage the coordination and logistics of planning, execution and impact of various environmental outreach programs;
  • Perform administrative functions as required and within the scope of the grant.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Coordinate projects and set priorities
  • Adapt or modify processes in response to changing circumstances
  • Interpret guidelines & analyze information
  • Networks with diverse groups, including landowners, conservation partners
  • May serve in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances
  • Performs administrative duties as required within the scope of the grant.
  • Duties are performed under direct supervision and established guidelines, with opportunity to act independently on some tasks
  • Demonstrate common sense, flexibility and teamwork with ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Write, edit & proofread written materials for use with project development and presentation
  • Coordinate with vendors/other parties to execute projects/deliverables
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the geography assigned
  • Financial responsibility may include purchasing, processing invoices, contracting with vendors, and assisting with budget tracking
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or GED, some college and conservation experience desirable
Skills/Experience: 
  • U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or Lawful Permanent Resident
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Satisfy the National Service Criminal History check eligibility criteria
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with MS Office
  • Ability to follow instructions from colleagues
  • Commitment to complete 11 months as AmeriCorps member
  • Good organizational skills and ability to manage diverse activities to meet deadlines
  • A valid Driver’s License

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Experience working with oysters, plants and/or natural habitats
  • Interest in the mission and activities of The Nature Conservancy
  • Database skills, including managing and tracking data, and producing reports;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in public speaking experience and/or education
  • Experience in business writing and/or editing publications or related materials
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects
Additional Information: 

Residence in the field house is provided for easy accessibility to the project area and to perform caretaking duties on the property.
