Context: Works with Chapter Leadership and Volunteers on local community programs and to recruit residents for local outreach, educational, and advocacy activities.
Scope: Implements statewide conservation educational programs for residents and the community on priority Chapter issues. Works closely with the appropriate chapter volunteer leaders to mobilize members of the local community, recruit environmental supporters to participate in community outreach teams, education, and advocacy teams, and train community residents to become community outreach, education, and advocacy team leaders. Works with Chapter leaders to identify, recruit, and train volunteers to support various chapter activities, programs and functions.
- Helps plan and implement education and outreach programs and events on priority issues identified by Chapter leaders and National Sierra Club such as clean transportation, renewable energy, and climate change throughout the State.
- Oversees grassroots recruitment and involvement in conservation education programs. Assists with development and implementation of conservation education and communications strategies.
- Educates community team members and the general public about environmental community risks and solutions.
- Works with Chapter leaders and other key resources to develop outreach programs to identify and recruit potential volunteers and members. Matches volunteers to their areas of interest and works to increase volunteer participation and motivation. Trains, supervises and schedules volunteers and interns.
- Assists the Chapter Director and volunteer leaders with planning and implementation of assigned programs, including coordinating phone banks, overseeing volunteer door-to-door outreach, managing lists and databases of campaign activists and supporters, making arrangements for outings, events and programs, and utilizing digital information and networks through Twitter, Facebook, and the Chapter’s website to generate enthusiasm and support for conservation programs and activities.
- Collaborates with Chapter leaders,to conduct outreach and to make presentations to campus, student groups, and local community organizations. Work with the Chapter Director to write and distribute newsletters, flyers, and press releases to keep the Club membership and the general public informed of successful program accomplishments to obtain volunteers and to collaborate with other community groups on conservation events.
- Monitors developments affecting conservation issues at the community and state levels, and keeps Chapter and volunteer leadership apprised.
- Collects and organizes feedback from all parties involved in volunteer activities and events. Collects feedback from volunteers, partnering organizations, and community members and works with the Chapter Director to share the information through written reports, testimonials, and verbal comments.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as required.
- Experience with at least one community organizing or mobilizing project.
- Demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with the general public and working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Word processing and Spreadsheet applications; and proficient with Google Docs Suite and social media platforms..
- Able to travel as needed for meeting and events. Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance required, if traveling by car.
