This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Aquatic Director at The Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA will give leadership to the Aquatic Operations that include both year-round and seasonal aquatic areas. This position may include but is not limited to hands-on leadership, budgeting, leadership and development of staff, programming, developing programming, risk management of aquatic environment and maintaining all state and local regulations, maintain safety standards and foster a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics programs.
- Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed.
- Monitors daily pool operations of 2 indoor pools and seasonal aquatic areas making sure to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations, including certifications.
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
- Recruits and hires staff and volunteers. Onboards and develops them for success.
- Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR training. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- Manages the program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistic to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; scheduling the pool facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, practices and meets all while maximizing pool and staff time.
- Ensure the safety of all staff, members and guests in the aquatic areas.
- Certify Aquatic Staff are adequately trained in all safety and emergency procedures and that certifications are current and valid.
- Prepare and maintain budget.
- Monitor purchasing of supplies.
- Oversee Children’s Birthday parties
- Ensure all aquatic processes and practices are aligned with YMCA best practices.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Current lifeguard, CPR, AED, O2 and First Aid required.
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
- CPO or YMCA POOL certification preferred, must complete within 6 months.
- Five years minimum Aquatic Leadership, preferably leadership to a multi-site operation.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Program and Budget development experience.
Salary: $38,000.00 - $42,000.00
