The Director of Youth Education plays an integral leadership role within YMCA of Bucks County; a leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Director of Youth Education oversees child care at our New Britain Youth Education Center; ensuring the delivery of high-quality outcomes; including quality, safety, growth and program retention. The Director of Youth Education will also participate in ensuring consistency across the county in curriculum and practices through the efforts of the 4KEYC Staff Team. Further duties include, but are not limited to, marketing, family events/programming, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, community relations and collaborations with community agencies.   

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Staff:  Recruit, train, and consistently develop a staff team which exhibits a welcoming, positive, mature, and empathetic attitude; while displaying high knowledge of our cause-driven services.     
  • Environment:  Establish a clean, safe, organized, welcoming environment that speaks to all members.
  • Relationship Building:  Through the use of Listen First, establish positive collaborations between staff to staff, staff to member, and ultimately member to member.
  • Data:  Continually compile and use survey results to close service area gaps throughout areas of responsibility.   

Core Responsibilities:

  • Uphold our image and values as the leading provider of child care across Bucks County; this includes maintaining proper licensing and STARS requirements at all times. Prepares for all inspections.  
  • Support a unified curriculum across Bucks County through facilitation in New Britain; exceeding standards. This includes the purchasing and sustainability of program supplies, snack, staff apparel, paper products, etc.   
  • Facilitate the tracking of select objectives including DHS paperwork, food orders, supplies, staff scheduling, first aid, etc.
  • Recruit, develop, train and retain qualified, nurturing and engaging staff. Plan and lead department meetings; on average monthly.
  • Secure staff scheduling, including proper staff coverage in the event of sudden absences, PTO, etc. Work within classroom ratio when necessary whether for coverage, training, involvement/engagement of staff, etc.  
  • Instill consistent staff appreciation practices. Ensure staff are meeting professional development criteria.   
  • Partner with Human Resources and the Regional Director of Youth Education in the successful execution of performance management practices.
  • Develop, manage, and sustain the child care budget; meeting and/or exceeding enrollment goals. Partner with Regional Director of Youth Education in the overseeing of financial reporting/projections that are accurate, timely and clear.
  • Secure the tour process including in-take phone calls, tour itself, follow-up tour procedures, returning calls, etc.
  • Lead and secure Daxko registration integrity; partner with finance in the receivables process including possible pause/termination of services.
  • Collaborate with facilities and uphold the safety and maintenance of high-quality child care facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Partner with marketing in the launch of cause-driven communication efforts to effectively celebrate benefit to the Central Bucks Region - Doylestown / New Britain community while supporting enrollment; this includes all marketing platforms (brochure, social media, flyers, etc.) and events.  
  • Lead a positive, active role with all associated school districts and child care advocates within the school district and greater community.
  • Develop and direct high-quality relationship-based family engagement strategies. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community. Support innovation strategies including possible parent communication software (Tadpoles, etc.)
  • Foster a climate of innovation to develop child and family-centered programs which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies. Stay on top of childcare trends and needs. 
  • Partner with and support development in discovering opportunities for fundraising.    
  • Represent and promote the Y in the local community and develop positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develop, maintain, and model collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  • Play an active role on the Youth Education: ECE and SACC 4KEYC Team.
  • Attends trainings, organizational and staff meetings as requested by supervisor.
  • Follows YMCA Human Resources & Risk Management policies, chain of command, and procedures of the organization.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned; supporting the Regional Director of Youth Education, COO and greater Executive Leadership Team in the successful fulfillment of the strategic plan.
Educational Background: 
Minimum BA in a DHS licensed approve area of study.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Extensive knowledge of child care licensing regulations and Keystone STARS.
  • Five or more years of combined classroom management and/or supervision experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Able to lead high-quality programming through staff supervision, fiscal management, curriculum planning/execution, marketing, public relations, and program development.
  • Possess the ability to develop, project and sustain an operating budget of minimum $500K.
  • Able to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Through applying Y core values, establishes and maintains collaborations with fellow branch and county Y leadership.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are required.   
  • Attend New Hire Orientation and Listen First within the first 60 days of hire.
  • Achieve YUSA Leading and Coaching Others certification within six months of position.
