The Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA is seeking a passionate and forward-thinking executive director with a proven successful track record of developing a strong branch board, increasing annual giving, engaging community through increasing membership and programs while advancing the Y’s impact in the community. The Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA enjoys a rich and deep partnership with the City of Alpharetta and is located on Preston Ridge Road.  This 21-year-old facility will undergo an ongoing $3,000,000 renovation supported in part by the City of Alpharetta.   

This highly motivated leader will report directly to the Metropolitan Atlanta YMCA’s senior vice president of operations. The executive director will have primary responsibility for the branch’s day-to-day operations, including adherence to the association’s 2020 strategic plan: empower healthy living, ensure school readiness, improve academic achievement, and inspiring civic leadership. 

Experience in the areas of staff supervision, membership and program development, fiscal management, fundraising, volunteer cultivation and community involvement are required. The continued development and coaching of the strong and experienced staff team to new levels of service will be key to achieving our full potential. Budget accountability is up to approximately $9,400,000, including an annual campaign of over $267,000. The campaign, itself, has experienced annual growth year over year.  

This person will be directly accountable for operating a 67,236 square foot Y facility, which includes an outdoor pool, Wellness Center and all community engagement and volunteer programs located on Preston Ridge Road in Alpharetta. 

The ideal candidate will exhibit skills to further expand the Y’s reach into the community and excel in development and fostering of partnerships and collaborations with both private and public sectors. Our candidate is one who enjoys being embedded, engaged, and visible in the community of leaders and donors. Additionally, the ideal candidate demonstrates strategic and critical thinking for membership and healthy living programs, advanced leadership programs for teens and all community engagement and volunteer programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Establish a culture of quality and service in an effort to meet and exceed the goals and objectives set forth in the strategic plan and standards established by the Board of Directors.
  • Models the behavioral values established by the Association and will have a passion and enthusiasm for the mission of the Y.  
  • Cultivates meaningful community collaborations.
  • Develops, manages and monitors an operating budget to meet or exceed targets.  
  • Provides metrics to measure program/membership impact, staff, and program and membership satisfaction.
  • Participates in branch and Association-wide activities and initiatives.
  • Mentors, coaches and develops branch staff.
  • Acts as the LEAD campaigner for Why It Matters Annual Giving Campaign including but not limited to: volunteer recruitment, training and support and lead as an integral member of the management team committed to reaching stated fund raising goals.
  • Serve on a Metro Membership Cabinet, liaison with appropriate professional groups in the community and serve on Metro Task Forces as assigned.
  • Provide staff leadership to key program committees as determined by Executive Director.
  • Manage delivery of related programs to exceed YMCA standards and program objectives.
  • Maintain branch and association certifications in CPR, Multi Media First Aid, Blood-borne Pathogens, Metro Atlanta YMCA new staff orientation, branch orientation and branch emergency procedures.
  • Leads the strategic positioning of the branch to meet the goals of the Metro-wide strategic plan.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 8 or more years overall leadership experience with at least 5 years of successful experience managing large teams in an executive level/senior management position.
  • Hands on experience working with a diverse population in a YMCA strongly preferred.
