This position assists in the development and organization of our high-quality YMCA child care programs. The Assistant Director provides support in all areas of our licensed childcare, 4K, preschool and before and after school programs and supervision of our staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Supports center director in managing and coordinating all child care programs for assigned location. Helps to ensure high-quality programs and establishes new program activities.
  • Assists center director with recruitment, hiring, and developing staff.
  • Provides input for reviews and evaluation of staff performance. Provides strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Supports healthy eating through evaluation and monitoring menu quality.
  • Provides necessary documentation to meet compliance with food program requirements.
  • Understands licensing requirements and meets compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Maintains the physical environment to support healthy living.
  • Develops relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Supports annual fundraising campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Helps to maintains proper records/department files.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program with the center director.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Have at least 80 full days experience as a lead teacher in a licensed child care setting, and within one year of assuming this position acquire the following:
    • Take at least 2 non-credit department-approved courses in early childhood education or 2 courses for credit of department approved early childhood education
    • Take one course in the administrators credential.
    • If you are the motivated person we are looking for…we will provide these trainings within your first year

Compensation/Benefits: 

Starting salary range is $32,000 to $36,000 depending on experience and education.
