The Health & Wellness Director oversees the development and operations of the Health & Wellness Director oversees the development and operations of the Health and Wellness department including but limited to group exercise, work out areas, personal training, community wellness programs to adults and youth and the adults sports programs. Provides liaison to committee and advisory boards.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote the Health & Wellness program and membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members personally connect with the YMCA.
- This position has two FT Associate Directors to guide and provide leadership in the Health & Wellness department.
- Works in conjunction with marketing and membership staff through program promotion to increase retention and recruitment of membership.
- Develops and controls department budgets related to the position; Health&Wellness and Sports.
- Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
- Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
- Ensures high quality member-focused programs and service through innovative program development, evaluations and on-going training of staff. Assists with incentive programs and chronic disease offerings aligned with Y-USA Best Practices.
- Coordinates special events and activities that promote the mission of meeting community needs through collaborations.
- Provides data and reports as required for tracking success and scheduling improvements for assigned programs and work with grant writer to continue funding for specialized programs.
- Maintains certifications and remain knowledgeable about upcoming trends.
- Manages concerns, complaints and resolves problems with appreciation for the insight.
- Oversees equipment upkeep and maintains requirements for compliance licensing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health and Fitness, Exercise Physiology or equivalent
Skills/Experience:
- Four or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency
- ACSM, NASM, NSCA, AFAA or ACE certifications are a plus; at least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred
- Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising
- Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations; knowledge in the makeup of workouts for members at all levels & abilities required
- Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others Ability to establish and maintain collaboration with community organization
- YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred
- Must secure YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60-days of hire; must be able to work one weekend day per weekend and some evenings as well
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $58,000.00 - $65,000.00
