The Conservation Public Relations Fellow will play a leading role in creating and executing The Nature Conservancy in Wisconsin’s 60th anniversary celebration, to take place over the course of 2020. Working alongside a staff team, the Fellow will develop a communications and outreach plan for the 60th anniversary and lead implementation of the plan. This is a 15-month fellowship open to recent graduates of a college or graduate program, with an anticipated start date of August 2019. The position will be based in the Conservancy’s Madison, WI office, working under the direction of the Development and Marketing/Communications Departments.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Conservation Public Relations Fellow will lead the planning and implementation of the Wisconsin chapter’s 60th anniversary celebration in 2020. The Fellow will work with staff and other stakeholders to build consensus around the objectives for the 60th anniversary celebration, develop a plan, and implement special events and outreach throughout the year. The Fellow will be responsible for creative and administrative tasks related to the 60th anniversary celebration, including developing marketing materials, planning events, conducting public outreach, and managing the coordination of the anniversary campaign. The Fellow will work closely with Conservancy staff across many different departments. We are looking for a self-starter who is comfortable working independently as well as within a team. The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate with strong project management and communication skills and some experience in marketing/public relations and event coordination. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Work with a staff team to create a communications and outreach plan for the 60th anniversary celebration
  • Build support for the 60th anniversary plan and communicate goals and actions to all stakeholders
  • Plan and coordinate events related to the 60th anniversary celebration
  • Assist with development of 60th anniversary marketing materials
  • Coordinate ongoing work and basic projects
  • Duties are performed under direct supervision and established guidelines  
  • Some travel within Wisconsin is expected
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and 1 year related experience, or equivalent combination
Skills/Experience: 
  • Degree completed within the last 18 months
  • Experience with verbal communication and writing
  • Experience providing administrative or project support
  • Experience demonstrating organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with relevant technology needed for communications and managing calendars, such as Microsoft Office
  • Experience acting independently to achieve goals and objectives

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience writing, editing, and proofreading written materials
  • Experience in event planning
  • Comfort with public communications and presentation
  • Working knowledge of social media
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Multilingual skills appreciated
  • Multicultural or cross-cultural experience preferred
