Directs all aspects of membership including recruitment of new members, member engagement and retention of existing members.  Provides leadership to Member Services staff.  Develops, plans and implements new procedures and methods within Association guidelines to achieve strategic goals.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Interpret, communicate and promote YMCA mission and goals to meet the community needs.
  • Implement character development program through assignment, responsibilities and personal example.
  • Direct branch media contacts with newspaper, radio, and television.  Oversee internal/external branch marketing & promotion efforts.
  • Develop membership sales and retention strategies.  
  • Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership
  • Analyze and resolve member problems in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Provides leadership and training for membership staff and volunteers effectively; recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams; onboards, provides cause driven leadership and develops them for success.
  • Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures.  
  • Make phone calls to termination accounts regarding dissatisfaction, medical problems or financial assistance to determine possible solutions.
  • Assist in branch member involvement efforts (Breast Cancer Awareness Month, blood drives, member challenges, etc)
  • Serve as the Branch’s representative to the membership cabinet and other committees as needed.
  • Assist in special events at the YMCA of Central Virginia to include Golf Tournament, Donor Thank you Luncheon, etc.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and retain a team of membership professionals that deliver high quality member service
  • Grow and expand membership penetration throughout Lynchburg, Amherst, Appomattox and Nelson County
  • Strengthen partnership with Downtown businesses and in the surrounding community
  • Raise awareness and support for YMCA memberships through community involvement and member engagement.    
  • Successfully lead membership department in the annual giving campaign
  • Exceed budget of $1,800,000 by 2% and increase retention rate to 74%
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • He/she must demonstrate by example, teaching and training of others in membership service that leads to increased membership, engagement, and retention.  
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with standard business software.  
  • He/she must have the ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.  
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in leadership is preferred. 
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,500.00 - $40,000.00
