Work for the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo, supervising our Portage location's Aquatics Department!

Develops, organizes and implements high quality aquatic YMCA program. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives (see list below).(Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, Caring, Cause Driven and Exceed Expectation)
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. (Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, Caring, Cause Driven and Exceed Expectation)
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. (Responsibility, Honesty Caring, Cause Driven and Exceed Expectation)
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications. (Responsibility, Respect, Caring)
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. (Cause Driven, Caring, Responsibility)
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.(Responsibility, Honesty)
  • Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events (Responsibility, Caring, Respect, Cause Driven)
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.(Exceed Expectation, Caring)
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner. (Responsibility, Respect, Caring, Honesty, Cause Driven and Exceed Expectation)
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. (Responsibility, Respect, Caring, Honesty, Cause Driven and Exceed Expectation)

Program Specific Duties:

  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Maintains accurate records of staff certifications.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools.
  • Secures and schedules pool facilities.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Three years supervising others and working knowledge of pool operations.
  • CPR, First Aid, Life guarding and Lifeguard Instructor certifications

Physical Demands:

  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).
