The Director, Talent & Operations leads our talent and operations work for the Greater Tulsa team. You will inspire and manage a team, leading them to reach ambitious outcomes in operations, finance, and talent work. In addition, you will lead our talent & people work for our region, including staff recruitment, hiring, performance management, talent development, and transitions. You will ensure the team has the talent needed to reach its goals and maximize efficiency and accuracy around the region’s critical finance, operations, and administrative needs. This position provides a unique opportunity for individuals with superior critical thinking, project & people management, and relationship-building skills to play a key role in driving the effectiveness and long-term stability of the region. The Director, Talent & Operations will report to the MD, Chief of Staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Management (25%)

  • Lead a team committed to excellence.
  • Set vision, direction, goals, and responsibilities for the talent & operations team.
  • Lead the coaching and development of talent & operations team members.
  • Lead the people experience and culture of the talent & operations team, including having a plan for culture and a consistent process to implement solutions for improvement timely and appropriately

Talent (50%)

  • Create and oversee a comprehensive human capital development and management plan, including processes for recruitment, hiring, onboarding, performance management and development, retention, and staff transitions and exits.
  • Build robust and diverse talent pipelines for regional staff roles and manage recruitment, hiring, matriculation, and onboarding of staff in a way that promotes inclusivity and prepares staff members for success.
  • Create and execute a scope and sequence of professional development for all staff.  Work with the Leadership Team to identify region-wide trends and priorities to inform the above work.
  • In partnership with the Leadership Team, develop and execute strategies to assess and build team culture and team embodiment of our Core Values and DEI Commitment 
  • Internalize Human Assets practices and policies and collaborate with Teach For America’s Human Assets team to ensure staff have access to information and resources.

Operations (15%)

  • Own vision and strategy for operations and administrative needs in the region, adopting industry best practices.
  • Oversee office vision & management, including lease, space, and major renovations and/or office moves. 

Collective Responsibilities (10%)

  • Drives discrete projects to support the Greater Tulsa region in reaching ambitious goals.
  • Participate as a member of the regional internal operations team.
  • Participate in all staff regional commitments (e.g., selection, matriculation, all corps events, and team meetings).
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree required/Master’s degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Teach For America corps member and/or staff member experience is strongly preferred
  • At least 5 years professional work experience preferred, demonstrating progressively increasing responsibility, with demonstrated success in all or most of the relevant functional areas (e.g. talent, project management, etc.)
  • Previous people management experience strongly preferred
  • Previous project management & talent work experience strongly preferred
  • Solid understanding of and experience in implementing adult management, coaching, and development practices
  • Independent self-starter; enjoys starting projects and can successfully self-manage to see the project through to completion
  • Constant learner; actively seeks, embraces, and incorporates regular feedback from manager, peers, and direct reports
  • Generative and strategic thinker; can analyze past, current, and hypothetical future circumstances to generate creative solutions that capitalize on strengths and mitigate weaknesses
  • Adept at building relationships and trust across a diverse group of people and roles
  • Thrives in complex environments; is enthusiastic about taking on complex projects where the exact answer is unclear or the problem isn’t easily solvable, yet still maintains a problem-solving orientation in the pursuit of creative solutions
  • Strong attention to detail; adept at managing multiple moving parts and adapting to change, minimizing errors, and learning quickly from past mistakes
  • Exceeds expectations; exemplifies strong self-awareness and constantly aspires for excellence in all responsibilities of the role

Work Demands:

  • Ability to travel to in-person meetings in various U.S. cities [1-2 times/year].
  • Ability to travel independently to multiple locations for work throughout Tulsa & Muskogee and store/bring items to those locations.
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 20 pounds for work purposes.
  • Occasional weekend or evening work is required.
