The Senior Child Development Director oversees the development and operations of high-quality member-focused programs, through innovative program development, evaluations of the before and after school enrichment program, summer day camp, Kids Zone babysitting, preschool programs, teen programs, family events, and the Hanby Outdoor Center.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Responsible for recruiting, training and supporting a team of full time and part time staff and volunteers. Responsible for the coordination of special events and activities associated with these programs
- Coordinate and direct the expansion of the programming offered at the Hanby Outdoor Center to include spring and fall program opportunities
- Develop, implement, and manage operating/marketing plans to promote program and/or membership growth for the YMCA
- Execute strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and the YMCA
- Develop and manage budgets for all program areas providing monthly financial and program statistical reports
- Represents the YMCA on community collaboration efforts (teams/committees)
- Model relationship-building skills in all interactions
- Assure compliance with state and local regulations and that program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed
- Maintains staff/child ratio as set by State of Delaware licensing regulations
- Responsible for annual licensure of all program sites
- Responsible for maintaining Delaware Stars Quality Level in program sites and ensuring that operations are consistent with Stars Curriculum
- Recommend any necessary program changes that will more effectively and efficiently improve our program quality and safety.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in education, human services, social services, recreation, or equivalent.
Skills/Experience:
- Four or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency. The incumbent must possess an extensive background in supervision of staff and discipline and education of children, in addition to good management skills in planning, organizing, staffing and directing programs.
- Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff; experience in developing and monitoring budgets, knowledge of marketing and public relations techniques and tactics; experience in developing and growing programs.
- The incumbent must be able to demonstrate flexibility of leadership and the personality to deal with a variety of people and a diverse population.
- Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others. The position requires a high level of human relation skills, as well as, parental and child interactions.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
- YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
- Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention, Sexual Harassment Training, CPR, First Aid, including AED, and Bloodborne Pathogen training.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $55,400.00 - $73,000.00
