Mecklenburg County YMCA is searching for a Director of Programs/Wellness for its 2 locations (Chase City and Clarksville, Virginia).

Salary:            $30,000 - $34,000

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
  • This position includes the responsibility of oversight for the Chase City location YMCA. 
  • Oversees all instructors/volunteer instructors (schedules, coverage, recruitment, evaluation, etc.)
  • This position oversees and/or assists in the development and operations of various programs, such as healthy living, weight training, personal training, collaborative aquatics, youth sports, adult activities, membership, and/or other programs. 
  • Recruits, trains and supports assigned staff.
  • Develops, organizes and implements high quality youth sports/adult activity programs. 
  • Requires traveling to and from three permanent locations + program event sites using their personal vehicle.
Areas of Responsibility: 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plans, coordinates, and supervises all program activities to meet YMCA objectives.  Expands youth sports and adult activity programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  2. Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities.  Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices;        monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
  3. Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation            meetings, trainings, and meetings for staff, coaches, instructors and volunteers.
  4. Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and        distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.  Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates and distributes team photographs.
  5. Organizes and conducts clinics/trips/special activities/events.  Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/special events.
  6. Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth sports/adult activity program information, may organize                and schedule program registrations.  Will review and forward program scholarship applications for processing.
  7. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  8. Responds to all staff, volunteer, members and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  9. Compiles program statistics/data/reports. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation of programs  and instructors/volunteers/coaches.
  10. Develops and controls department budgets related to the position.
  11. Assists in the hiring, evaluation, and primarily trains, and supervises staff and volunteers.
  12. Facilitates communication and provides leadership amongst staff, volunteers, and membership.
  13. Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures  are followed.  Ensures the maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience: 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
  2. Preference will be given to those with one to two years related experience/.
  3. Ability to direct/coordinate programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of                 budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
  4. Preference will be given to those with knowledge of, and previous experience working with, diverse populations.
  5. Typical requirements within 180 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood borne Pathogens.
  6. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications during tenure of position as specified by CEO/Executive Director.
