The Senior Philanthropy Communications Specialist-North America collaborates with leadership to design and execute communications strategies and collateral for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of the region’s most significant donors.
The Senior Philanthropy Communications Specialist leads donor communications for North America by developing stewardship systems and both long form and short form content. Special areas of focus include supporting written donor communications for the regional executive vice president and the North America Cabinet. Manages relevant work with vendors, interns and administrative staff. Involves and engages appropriate staff partners at the regional, field, global and executive levels to inform stellar content. Works closely with fundraising professionals across The Nature Conservancy, from US Chapters to other regional development staff to Worldwide Office Development (Principal Gifts and the Donor Communications Team) to share communications and compose written proposals and reports on North America regional conservation priorities for some of the organization’s key donors. The ability to leverage relationships and networks across The Nature Conservancy, a global organization with operations in 50 states and more than 70 countries, is a critical aspect of the position. Reports to the Director of Development for North America. The position location is flexible, to be based in a continental US Conservancy office.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Manage and serve as team lead on assigned projects
- Supervise administrative staff, interns, vendors on projects
- Manage assigned budget, evaluate results and develop recommendations for corrective strategies as needed
- Responsibility and accountability for meeting project goals and objectives
- Resolves complex issues independently within program area

- A minimum 7 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience crafting organization- or company-wide communication tools, including branding.
- Experience writing, editing and proofreading messages for targeted audiences.
- Experience presenting to diverse audiences including some or all of the following: internal and external executives, donors, members, board members, and the public or equivalent.
- Experience implementing, and managing multiple complex projects.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree preferred, and educational background in communications-related field (English, creative writing, journalism/mass communication, marketing)
- 5 years’ relevant experience, particularly in editorial capacities in support of major and principal gifts fundraising
- Excellent writing, presentation, communication skills
- Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices
- Experience crafting diverse array of collateral materials, from short form to more technical pieces
