Teach For America – Greater Philadelphia seeks a Director of Educator Support and Career Development to support rising alumni and alumni educators’ professional and career development, retention, and connection to one another and teacher networks across the Greater Philadelphia region. The Director will focus their time on the ~450 Teach For America teachers – corps members and alumni -- in the region to ensure these educators are better developed in their current roles, better supported as they potentially look to advance in their careers, and better connected to maximize their effectiveness and support for one another and their impact on students. The Director will report directly to the Managing Director, Alumni Affairs and will work closely with our Program team which onboards and coaches new Teach For America teachers.
Alumni Teacher Support and Development: Leading Classrooms Teacher Fellowship (25%)
Design and facilitate a Teacher Leader Fellowship for 8-12 teachers (focused on 3rd-5th year teachers) with responsibilities including, but not limited to:
- Designing and executing a year-long scope and sequence aligned to the fellowship goals
- Building and/or strengthening relationships and partnerships with external partners to deliver session content aligned to the fellowship goals
- Providing individual coaching for Fellows in between fellowship sessions, in alignment with individual teachers’ emerging classroom visions
- Engage past participants of the program in responsive support and development
Alumni Educator Support and Development: On-Demand Programming Led By Alumni (25%)
- Collect and analyze alumni survey data and informal feedback to create responsive, on-demand programming (e.g. book clubs, networking events, mentorships, etc.)
- Collaborate with the Managing Director, Alumni Affairs to design and execute Schools to Learn From Program, including but not limited to: outreach to potential host schools; initial school visits; planning calls; logistics support; and agenda design
- Design and execute a programming series, including but not limited to: designing and executing 3-4 sessions in a 6-week period; inviting external partners to present at sessions; conducting outreach to attract a diverse group of participants; and providing logistical support
- Recruit alumni participants and facilitators for on-demand programming with attention to engaging alumni who represent the diversity of our larger alumni community
- Help design and execute teacher appreciation week activities
Recent Alumni Career Support and Development (20%)
- Conduct regular, proactive outreach to a diverse group of alumni and meet individually, or in groups, to understand their career development interests and goals
- Foster connection between alumni, proactively and reactively. This may include supporting alumni who are looking for new positions, connecting teachers to a mentor, introducing alumni with similar goals and interests, and more.
- Leverage the alumni network to provide referrals and connections for job-seeking rising alumni and alumni
- Design and execute programming to support the career exploration and development of recent alumni still in education looking to advance in their careers
Corps Member Teacher Retention and Development (15%)
- Conduct regular, proactive outreach to a diverse group of corps members and meet individually, or in groups, to understand their development interests and goals and to build interest in alumni network engagement
- Design and execute programming focused on supporting rising alumni as they reflect on their corps experience and consider their options after the corps. This may include an alumni panel, resume/interview workshop, etc.
- Collaborate with Program Team, corps members, and alumni teachers to plan and execute Alumni Induction, which celebrates corps members’ two years of service in the classroom
Collaboration with regional and national teams (10%)
- Participate in the National Corps Member Final Evaluation process (Selection) for up to six days during the year
- Matriculate incoming Greater Philadelphia corps members during 4-5 confirmation windows
- Attend large-scale, full-day regional events such as Philly Pham Days and Induction
- Attend and participate in Program Team Meetings, bi-monthly Staff Meetings, quarterly All Staff Events, and any additional required staff programming
Data Input and Analysis (5%)
- Utilize data management systems (Salesforce platform TFACT, Google Drive) to accurately report and track progress towards goals
- Analyze existing and newly gathered data to determine a responsive strategy for programming development and relationship building
- 5+ years of teaching experience preferred, prior coaching experience required
- School leadership experience preferred but not required
- Career counseling or coaching experience preferred but not required
- Experience and record of results in teacher development and programming development
- Experience and record of results in developing strong partnerships to achieve outcomes
- Teach For America alum preferred but not required
- Philadelphia native or long-time resident preferred but not required
- Innovative and visionary thinker who demonstrates a strong sense of possibility when faced with challenges
- Strong project planner with demonstrated ability to manage process through others
- Superb interpersonal relationship building skills, with a proven ability to develop and leverage relationships to a specific end
- Strong skills in cultural competency required
Work Demands
- 45-50 hours per week with increased hours occasionally
- Some weekend and evening work required
- Some local travel to in-person meetings required
