The Executive Director of the Mountain States Alliance provides executive leadership for all aspects of the Mountain States Alliance of 15 YMCAs in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Baker City, Oregon. The Executive Director works with alliance members’ CEOs and their Boards on the delivery of strategic services and board governance, and manages all regional and statewide advocacy efforts for member YMCAs. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work closely with Alliance Chairs to develop and guide long-range strategy for the Alliance.
  • Work closely with member YMCAs’ CEOs and their Board Chairs to deliver strategic services to each YMCA in the Alliance.
  • Work closely with member YMCAs’ CEOs and their boards to develop and guide their governance models.
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer learning and support among member YMCAs and other regional alliances.
  • Facilitate development of innovative statewide and regional program initiatives to deliver the YMCA’s Cause.
  • Align Alliance work with that of Y-USA, both programmatically and legislatively.
  • Manage proactive communications with internal and external audiences.
  • Develop the Alliance’s annual budget. Provide prudent fiscal management, reporting, and controls of said budget and its projects.
  • Prioritizes safety in the accomplishment of all functions and contributes to the leadership of a safety culture.
  • In addition to the above, all Treasure Valley Family YMCA employees are expected to:
  • Communicate with supervisor, staff, members, guests, and volunteers in a clear, concise and positive manner while using Listen First skills.
  • Build relationships with members, participants and volunteers.
  • Promote teamwork and cooperative effort.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area, practice good safety habits
  • Adhere to all YMCA policies, procedures and practices.

  • Work in harmony with the Y Mission and purposes, and the established policies, goals and objectives of the Treasure Valley Family YMCA.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five or more years of broad management experience in the YMCA Movement, in performance consulting, and in public policy and government relations. 
  • YMCA Organizational Leader certificate required within three years from date of hire.
  • Background must include strong skills in consulting methodology, human relations, budgeting and fiscal management, board governance development, financial development, strategic planning, and staff management. 
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, successful membership practices, quality program development and implementation, volunteerism, and sound financial practices.
  • Commitment to holding self and others accountable for organizational safety.
  • Must live in any city/town served by one of the YMCAs in the Alliance, with the preference being a location in the Treasure Valley of Idaho.
  • Must commit to work travel for at least 60% of the time.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00
