The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Senior Staff Accountant performs accounting, financial reporting, and financial controls and other similar tasks.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Assist with preparation of annual Audited Financial Statements.
- Prepare annual Statement of Functional Expense.
- Assist with preparation of annual Form 990 and other state and federal returns/filings.
- Review joint cost allocation calculation and supporting documentation.
- Perform technical accounting research and draft accounting policy documentation.
- Assist with preparation and coordination of internal control reviews and the audit process.
- Assist with implementing, maintaining, and improving internal financial controls and procedures.
- Prepare month-end internal financial reporting.
- Participate in consolidated monthly variance analysis and meetings (actual-to-budget to forecast comparison).
- Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Review journal entries, including all supporting documentation.
- Complete general accounting tasks for month-end and year-end closings.
- Prepare supporting accounting schedules and maintain files.
- Interact with various departments throughout the organization.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business with a concentration in Accounting.
Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, or experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

- Demonstrated knowledge of current accounting practices and principles (GAAP).
- Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse team members and build effective working relationships with team members.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking skills and analytical skills in problem solving.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency using Microsoft Office, especially Excel with expertise in data manipulation.
- High level of proficiency in the use of major financial platforms, e.g., Great Plains.
- Strong organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities and complete assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, demanding working environment.
- Demonstrated ability to establish credibility and be decisive.
- High energy level. Self-starter; willing to take initiative.

- Five years of accounting experience.
Preferences
- Three years of experience working with Great Plains.
- Three years of Public Accounting experience.
Certifications & Licensure
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
