School Age Program Assistant Group Leader

Position Summary: The Assistant Group Leader works under the guidance of the Group Leader in a support capacity. Primary responsibilities include supervising as group of approximately twelve children during program hours and working with the Group Leader and Program Coordinator to create and implement an interesting and engaging curriculum for the school age program. This position is 27.5 hours per week during the Afterschool Program and 40 hours per week during Summer Fun.

Purpose: To aid in the development of the well-being of the children by providing daily enrichment activities and implementing curriculum in order to enhance the child’s experience of out of school time.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide direct care to program participants during program hours.
  • Create and implement weekly lesson plans based on themes developed with the Program Director and group leaders.
  • Must engage children in active conflict management and address behavior issues in a positive manner.
  • Assist with snack set-up/clean-up and general classroom maintenance, as needed.
  • Must attend all required staff meetings and training, and have a total of at least five hours of training per year.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must meet the EEC requirements for the position of Assistant Group Leader.
  • Must be enthusiastic about working with, enriching the lives of school age children.
  • Must be able to establish positive working relationships with children, parents, and staff.
  • Must be able to utilize planning time effectively.
  • Red Cross Certification in CPR and First Aid are required within the first six months of employment.
