Position Summary: East End House's School Age Program is a nationally-accredited afterschool enrichment program which provides a safe, fun, and stimulating environment for children in kindergarten through fifth grade between the hours of 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. East End House also offers a full-day program during the summer and school vacation weeks. We believe that afterschool is an exciting and critical time in the lives of children & youth; a time for trying new things enhancing academic and social skills, and building a solid foundation for the future.
Group Leader role: Group Leaders support all functions of the School Age Program with a willingness to be flexible and have a "do whatever it takes" attitude. Group Leaders supervise groups of twelve to fifteen children during East End House's School Age Program hours of operation. Primary responsibilities include enrichment programming/ curriculum development and implementation, and supervising children. The Group Leader will also carry out administrative tasks necessary for the ongoing development of the program. This position is part-time, 27.5 hours/week during the school year's Afternoon Adventure program and 40 hours/ week during the Summer Fun program and school vacation weeks.
- Establish and foster positive relationships with children, staff, and families.
- Provide homework assistance in a small group setting.
- Write curricula and lead/support daily enrichment programming, with a focus on developing a well-rounded, engaging curricula that includes youth input, academic support, STEM activities, artistic expression and service learning opportunities.
- Support all functions of the School Age Program, including administrative tasks necessary for the ongoing development of the program and general classroom maintenance.
- Engage in effective behavior management practices.
- Maintain a safe, healthy environment for the children, adhering to proper EEC, NAA, Department of Health, and Bureau of Nutrition standards at all times.
- Bachelor's degree or college experience in a related field preferred.
- Must have previous experience in working with populations often denied access to vital human services due to social or economic barriers.
- Experience working with school age youth strongly preferred (including classroom management).
- Must have ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.
- Need to be able to work in a fast paced environment.
- Must be able to utilize planning time effectively and consistently produce top quality results.
- Must be an excellent and highly flexible problem-solver who can balance multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Must complete at least ten hours of professional development training per year.
- Must attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
- Certification of CPR/ First Aid is required within the first six months of employment.
This position is 40 hours/week with benefits, and reports to the President & CEO of the agency.
