East End House’s Middle School After School Program is nationally accredited, highly awarded, and seeks to be a leader in the field at all times. This 21st Century Community Learning Center includes homework help, sports, extracurricular activities, service learning, and concentrated project-based learning in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). It is run in partnership with Putnam Avenue Upper School (PAUS) teachers and staff. The school year program runs on site at PAUS from 3-6pm on school days, with classroom support starting at 1 or 2pm. The summer program and vacation weeks are full-time and include field trips and collaborations with other youth programs in Cambridge.

East End House, Inc. is seeking a strong leader with management experience in Out-of-School-Time ("OST") youth development programs to serve as the Middle School Program Director. The Director will serve as the lead program administrator, supporting and supervising all functions of the Middle School Program, including daily operations, staff hiring, training and supervision, volunteer management, program planning, logistics and scheduling, behavior management, parent engagement, and data collection. It is the responsibility of the Program Director to provide program supports that meet the needs of the children and their families, implement program-level evaluation, and provide leadership and vision to the program and overall agency.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead Middle School Program staff team in the development, design and implementation of curricula, activities and daily practices that support the Mission and Guiding Principles of East End House.
  • Establish and maintain program culture that promotes educational achievement, core competencies and character development.
  • Manage the selection, orientation, training, supervision, and evaluation of program staff.
  • Provide staff with professional development; schedule in-services, and coordinate other training opportunities that support professional growth and the agency mission.
  • Support staff in their behavior management efforts.
  • Manage and coordinate daily and weekly staffing and program schedules.
  • Manage concrete systems and processes (e.g. recruitment and enrollment, attendance tracking, staff time sheets, purchase requests, etc.), including ‘Efforts to Outcomes’ software data collection and entry.
  • Problem-solve issues of daily Middle School Program operations.
  • Seek new resources to enhance or complement current program activities and quality.
  • Foster positive relationships and maintain regular communication with students' families.
  • Lead and manage 8-week summer program for middle school children.
  • Actively participate in special projects, grant writing, strategic planning and implementation of new initiatives.
  • Ensure and promote intra-agency collaboration of programs to enhance opportunities for all consumers.
  • Attend and actively participate in relationship-building, meetings and events with agency partners and collaborators.
  • Manage program grant requirements and reporting.
  • Serve as an excellent ambassador for the organization at all times, both formally and informally.
  • Support and provide leadership for agency events and initiatives and special projects.
  • Position may allow opportunities for grant writing and program development as well as mental/emotional health research implementation.
  • Attend and contribute to EEH leadership team meetings and agenda.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's
Skills/Experience: 
  • College degree in related field required; Master's degree in education or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of four years varied experience working with middle school youth in an Out-of-School Time program required (at least two years should be in a managerial role).
  • Strong management, supervision and organizational skills.
  • Skilled and Passionate about youth development programs.
  • Excellent verbal & written skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal & team-building skills.
  • Must be enthusiastic about working with and enriching the lives of middle school children.
  • Must be an excellent problem-solver who can balance multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be First Aid/CPR certified by start date.
  • Ability to work general daily schedule of 10am-6pm, plus a few evenings/month.
Compensation/Benefits: 

This position is 40 hours/week with benefits, and reports to the President & CEO of the agency.
