Under the Direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Branch Executive is responsbile for managing the branch in accordance with all YMCA of Dane County policies, procedures and standards.  The Branch Executive is accountable for all aspects of the branch operations, including community relationship development, fiscal management, volunteer development, financial development, as well as the program and membership experience.  This position is responsbile for communicating the Y's mission, vision, and values to the branch staff, volunteers, members and community.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Maintains diverse advisory councils that actively support the Y’s goals and strategic plans. Recruits, selects, and develops diverse volunteers for the branch board. Clarifies and reinforces the division of roles and responsibilities between corporate boards, management or advisory boards, staff, and general volunteers.
  • Builds bridges within the community so that all segments of society have access to the Y. 
  • Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y’s impact for all stakeholders (e.g., staff, volunteers, members, community leaders) develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Manages the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives. Ensures operating budgets meet or exceed targets.
  • Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and association goals and strategies. Establishes plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives and the leadership team.
  • Directs the financial development activities of the branch.
  • Directs branch strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan of the branch.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, development and supervision of staff.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.

  • Ability to establish branch goals that support strategic objectives.
  • Ability to related effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Energetic, self-motivated and ready to deliver a superior member experience 
  • Superior communication skills – both verbally and written.
Educational Background: 
Advanced degree and/or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 6 years of management experience.  YMCA or other nonprofit experience a plus.
  • Passion for leading people, building relationships and engaging both individuals and teams to attain high performance and organizational goals.
  • Ability to establish branch goals that support strategic objectives.
  • Ability to cultivate and foster relationships with community leaders.
  • Ability to related effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • High level of judgment and confidentiality in dealing with member information.
  • Energetic, self-motivated and ready to deliver a superior member experience 
  • Superior communication skills – both verbally and written.
  • Hours/Schedule: Ability to work outside of normal business hours and/or weekends.
