YMCA Southcoast is seeking a full-time year round EEC qualified lead preschool teacher for our New Bedford YMCA preschool program. The person selected for this position will be responsible for the general supervision and management of a classroom.

This grant funded Preschool Lead Child Care Teacher is responsible for guiding and instructing children through creative planning and implementation of a developmentally appropriate daily program of activities promoting each child's affective, cognitive, physical, perceptual-motor, communicative and social competence. The position involves the close supervision of the Assistant Teacher enhancing a team teaching approach to ensure the safe and healthful care and management of children in a nurturing environment. Involvement includes maintaining contact and open communication with parents, program staff and community resources.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Planning, supervising, and implementing curriculum according to NAEYC standards, EEC regulations and YMCA policies.
  • Preparing the program to fit the needs of individual children with concerns for their interests, needs, talents, individual style, and pace of learning.
  • Considering individual children in relationship to their cultural and socio-economic background.
  • Helping children to become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
  • Being responsible for the arrangement, overall appearance, and learning environment of the classroom.
  • Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
  • Attending all staff meetings.
  • Participating in recommended trainings, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth and in accordance to EEC regulations.
  • Assisting the Director in supervising the teaching staff and in ensuring the smooth coordination of all classroom activities and staff and student inter-relationships.
  • Planning and implementing methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents of the students.
  • Conducting parent conferences on children’s school adjustment and classroom behavior.
  • And all other responsibilities as assigned by the Preschool Director and Executive Director.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree
