The Coastal Resilience Project Manager supports The Nature Conservancy's conservation goals by managing projects that support climate strategies across Florida to address impacts from climate change with an emphasis on using nature and nature-based solutions to reduce risk to people and places across Florida. S/he leads project teams, designs and delivers project objectives, and serves as liaison and informational contact on climate adaptation issues in Florida between TNC and federal, state, and local governments, business groups, and non-profit organizations. The Project Manager will be responsible for managing and leading small to large-scale complex projects that may span multiple departments or programs. This position will be based in South Florida.
The Project Manager plans, implements, and coordinates efforts in Florida to expand support for and to advance climate adaptation and mitigation planning efforts and policies to further The Nature Conservancy's mission. Duties include managing multiple, complex projects including implementation of coastal resilience projects, supporting collaborative partnerships and interactions with elected and appointed government officials, corporate representatives, non-profit organizations, media, and other key audiences on matters pertaining to TNC's climate priorities. S/he participates in fundraising activity to increase the level of financial support for TNC climate adaptation projects and priorities. The project manager may support efforts in Florida in support of TNC’s climate and energy priorities. S/he will work closely with the Climate Program Manager, TNC staff, outside consultants, collaborators, and the corporate community to identify opportunities and develop strategies and alliances to build the enabling environment that will allow incremental progress toward greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Working closely with the TNC Climate Program Manager in Florida and other staff in TNC chapters and programs, the Climate Project Manager supports strategies to broaden support for action to address TNC's climate adaptation priorities focused on using nature and nature-based solutions to reduce risk (e.g., regional or large-scale planning, policies that support adaptation actions)
Responsibilities include:
- Manage projects and teams involving construction of coastal resilience demonstration projects and programs.
- Creates new and strengthens existing partnerships with other organizations in the non-profit and private sectors, including the environmental, conservation, outdoor recreation, business, and other communities, in order to achieve TNC’s climate adaptation strategies.
- Identifies key stakeholders and constituencies and develops and implements strategies to engage these individuals and audiences in collaborative action on climate adaptation policy, planning, and projects.
- Shares information and coordinates strategy with TNC staff in other state, regional, and worldwide office programs.
- Contract and contractor management; construction management
- Demonstrated experience influencing, developing, and implementing conservation policy and plans.
- Ability to develop practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
- Experience working with corporate or NGO partners, and government agencies
- Experience presenting to and/or communicating with business, government or legislative staff and/or program leadership.
- Familiarity with social, economic, and political conditions in Florida.
- Experience coordinating complex projects in a decentralized organization, working across team, operating units, and functions to achieve optimal results.
- Experience building networks or organizational capacity, facilitating informational sessions, increasing internal knowledge and capacity, and identifying key
- stakeholders.
- Experience building relationships to influence outcomes and politically savvy.
- Strong time management, organizational, and prioritization skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage and track multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Travel occasionally, working long and flexible hours as needed
- 2 years of project management experience or 1 year acting as a project lead;
- Completed coursework or other training on project management principles;
- Experience in managing and tracking multiple projects;
- Experience managing project teams and working with cross-functional staff;
- Experience managing scheduling and financial aspects of small to large projects that range from short to long term; and
- Experience using project management techniques and tools such as Microsoft Project.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in climate adaptation and mitigation approaches, clean energy, or sustainability preferred.
- Restoration project or construction management
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated;
- Ability to manage and implement complex processes;
- Experience supervising staff, interns and/or volunteers;
- Proficiency in interpreting guidelines and manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting data;
- Certification in project management;
- Strong communication and presentation skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to negotiate, influence, and persuade; and/or
- Successful experience implementing strategic program goals.
