The primary role of the Director of Member Advancement is to manage the Alliance’s key service delivery system to YMCAs in Massachusetts. The principal objectives are as follows:

  • Build capacity of YMCAs in Massachusetts by directly providing them with excellent individual operational and external services per the YUSA grant for Network Partner Alliance Services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with YMCAs in Massachusetts, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Appropriately manage the Network Partner Alliance Services service delivery system including strategies and reports.
  • Engage external support and resources as needed to meet needs of YMCAs.
  • Identify operational efficiencies and revenue opportunities for YMCAs statewide and individually.
  • Build and enhance collaborations and shared resources between YMCAs.
  • Professionally represent the organization and the YMCA at all appropriate meetings.
  • Assist Alliance staff in all statewide program initiatives and advocacy efforts to achieve the organization’s priorities.
Areas of Responsibility: 

Build Organizational Capacity of YMCAs in Massachusetts through technical assistance and the delivery and oversight of direct services including:

  • Facilitate strategic planning
  • Facilitate Board Governance
  • Facilitate management agreements, shared services and mergers
  • Recognition and Early Intervention for Struggling Ys
  • Assist Alliance Executive Director in achieving deliverables in YMCA of USA grant including:
  • Ongoing volunteer engagement and relationship-building among Ys
  • Actively engage CEOs, volunteers and staff from all Ys
  • Work closely with YPN
  • Internal and external communications
  • Strategic alliances
  • Connect other state alliances
  • Support statewide initiatives
  • Develop a method to consistently contact each YMCA in Massachusetts and assess their operational and external needs.
  • Encourage and manage relationship building among YMCA CEOs and Volunteer Leaders
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, develop a work plan for the Alliance’s service delivery system and assign duties.
  • Attend local YMCA Board Meetings, as requested and necessary, to achieve the service delivery goals and objectives adapted for each Y.
  • Utilize LINK, Y Portfolio and all other systems provided by YMCA of the USA to build capacity among YMCAs in Massachusetts.
  • Routinely travel to each YMCA in Massachusetts and build a strong professional relationship with their staff and volunteer leadership.
  • Assist Alliance staff in advocacy and grassroots efforts, as assigned.
  • Assist Alliance staff with the delivery of statewide programming, including Youth and Government, Healthy Living Grants and all other programs, as assigned.
  • Attend professional development opportunities and other meetings, as assigned.
  • Provide reports and updates to the Alliance of Massachusetts YMCAs’ Board of Directors as necessary.
  • Consult with the Executive Director to provide reports to YUSA on service delivery objectives.
  • All other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 5 to 7 years of experience leading or consulting nonprofits.
  • Preference for YUSA Organizational Leader Certification.
  • Preference for experience in YMCA executive role in operations.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience facilitating strategic planning processes and discussions.
  • Demonstrated experience advising nonprofits on fundamental and recommended     Board Governance strategies.
  • Proven ability of successfully leading through change and adapting well to new situations, obstacles and opportunities.
  • Strong and demonstrated interpersonal, verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a manner that reflects a true understanding of the audience.
  • Skill in engaging successful strategies that inspire and build commitment to achieve overall goals.
  • Motivated, self-starter with the ability to work independently, as well as within a team.
  • Ability to gain consensus among principals in challenging environments and situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage projects, with superior technical and project management skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Group facilitation experience and skills.
  • Travel extensively and consistently across Massachusetts and national meetings.
  • Commitment to the YMCA’s character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00
