This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the District Vice President and Associate Branch Executive Director, the Youth & Family Program Director at Wilson YMCA oversees the development, organization and implementation of high-quality Youth & Family Programs in accordance with the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta’s mission.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives.  Expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.  Programs include Creative Arts, After School, Summer/Specialty Camps, Play & Learn/Clubhouse Operations, Teen Programs & Initiatives, etc.
  • Manages, directs, and coordinates the school age child care programs for assigned location(s).  Ensures high quality programs and established new program activities.  Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance.  Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Manages budgets related to the position.  Ensures programs operate within budget and that program fees are collected.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas.  Ensures that YMCA program standard are met, and safety procedures followed.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Develops and maintains relationships of school administration, parent groups, and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.  Responds to all agency, parent and community inquires and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Manages and Advises Teen program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.
  • Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings
  • Attends Branch Board meetings at the request of the District VP/Associate Branch Executive
  • Attends Family Programs and Camp Cabinet meetings and trainings as required
  • Compiles program statistics and surveys.  Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Accepts and demonstrates the Character Development values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
  • Actively participates and supports the annual scholarship campaign
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • One to three years related experience preferred.
  • Within 60 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $30,000.00 - $33,500.00
