Under the general supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Youth & Family Director will manage all aspects relating to administration and direction of the After School Program, Child Watch, Kids Gymnasium and Summer Kid’s Club at the Norwich Family YMCA. This responsibility will also include the implementation of the family programs and special events. The incumbent shares in general duties related to the total operation of the Norwich Family YMCA which includes immediate supervision of the department staff and volunteers.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop quality-supervised activities that meet the needs of our youth members and the youth in the community. This will include all aspects of the YMCA After School Programs, Before School Programs, Fun Clubs, Offsite After School Programs, Child Watch, and Kids’ Gymnasium. Be an instrumental leader assisting us with Summer Day Camp operations.
- Ensure program registration through New York State and that all programs are following state regulations and guidelines.
- Hire, train and supervise all department staff, including staffing responsibilities of all offsite youth programs.
- Conduct annual trainings for all department staff. This will enable you to review health and safety issues, state guidelines, programming trends, etc.
- Conduct family events monthly, may be in conjunction with other departments.
- Over see the Kids’ Gym department including the training and supervising of staff, ensuring the upkeep and safety of equipment, develop and update schedules, brochures, etc.
- Oversee all birthday parties including the ordering of supplies, scheduling of staff, and maintaining positive member relationships.
- Create an annual budget and insure through proper control that budget guidelines are followed.
- Perform all documentation and log entries as requested.
- Work closely with volunteers and volunteer committees.
- Produce monthly youth & family newsletters.
- Administer the child and adult food care program including food purchasing, training, billing, and ensuring that all guidelines are followed.
- Responsible for overseeing departmental payroll and submit to Finance Director.
- Communicate promptly with all front desk staff, program directors and executive leadership of projects, activities, events happening within the department in order to foster and promote positive working relationships.
- To perform all required job responsibilities in a professional, responsible manner while promoting and supporting the YMCA, its programs, its staff and its members.
- Ensure all department operations are consistent with the Association procedures. This includes safety, insurance, incident/accident reports, purchasing, HR and payroll procedures, accounting, and maintains appropriate logs and records.
- Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensure that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
- Assists in marketing and distribution of program information.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Educational Background:
BA/BS in Education or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- YMCA Team Leader preferred.
- Minimum of two years experience in working with youth.
- Minimum of two years experience managing staff.
- Current certifications in CPR-PR, AED and First Aid.
- Proficiency in using Word, Excel and Publisher.
- Excellent human relation skills, good organizational and communication skills.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and its capacity to build strong kids, families and communities. The ability to articulate and model YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibilities are essential.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00
