The Senior Advisor, Data Strategy position will be responsible for providing the governance, strategy and frameworks for conservation data.  They will act as a global data strategist capable of managing both projects and people in a complex organization.  This will require bringing data and information to constituents in a secure manner that drives decision making both internally and externally.  This unique position will be exciting and challenging for the right person who wants to be a part of a growing department that is redefining conservation technology.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Senior Advisor, Data Strategy will be responsible for creating and overseeing a comprehensive conservation data platform, including governance, training, and security, that will lead others in making the best decisions through accurate and real time data.  You will work with others in the organization to regulate how the business captures, maintains and presents data and information on a global level.  You will champion the development, adoption and maintenance of an information architecture that will be used both internally and externally and work to integrate disparate data and create new insights and information.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Act independently and as a thought leader for the organization;
  • Work within scope of program’s strategic goals;
  • Manage by influence for internal and external partners;
  • Make quick, actionable decisions by leveraging design sprints and agile techniques;
  • Ability to explain complex information to non-technical people;
  • Excellent understanding of data, including governance, strategies and insights;
  • Must be able to travel and work flexible hours, as needed.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • 10 years’ experience in Database Systems, Data Governance and Data Analytics or equivalent.
  • Experience in working with/applying systems technology/project management technologies best practices.
  • Experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Experience conceiving, developing, and managing multiple projects and strategic goals.
  • Experience managing relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Management experience of a large multidisciplinary department, including planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Experience with the Socrata data platform;
  • Experience designing and creating an open data platform;
  • Experience working within a highly matrixed organization;
  • At least 10+ years in data analytics;
  • Proven “Big Picture” thinking;
  • Experience working across departments and outside an organization.
  • Experience as a Chief Data Officer;
  • Ability to implement complex processes;
  • Ability to use emerging and existing technology to achieve desired results;
  • Strong sense of curiosity;
  • Successful experience implementing strategic program goals.
