This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Fitness Director is responsible for ensuring members have the opportunity to reach their healthy living goals through safe & effective group fitness programming at multiple locations.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Works with supervisor to develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Manages all components of group fitness programming within assigned branches and corporate sites.
- Assists in development and manages implementation of department budget to meet fiscal goals.
- Develops, models and integrates systems and practices that encourage and sustain positive relationships and retention of members/participants.
- Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
- Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
- Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to Group Fitness Instructors and members.
- Manages payroll related transactions and monitors for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Maintains/keeps current personal certification requirements.
- Communicates and updates program needs to supervisor and branch leadership.
- Keeps accurate program class attendance records and reports trends to supervisor.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
- Actively participates in department, branch and association meetings and trainings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent
Skills/Experience:
- At least 1 year supervisory experience in customer service and/or fitness instruction
- Demonstrated success leading member-focused or equivalent team
- Demonstrated leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours
- Complete before first shift: YMCA cause & culture training; program-specific training
- Complete within 30 days of hire: YMCA cause & culture, branch-specific and safety training (provided by YMCA)
- Complete within 90 days of hire & maintained consistently: YMCA program-specific certifications and current nationally recognized Group Exercise and/or Personal Training Certification
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $33,993.00 - $39,602.00
