The YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge is seeking an experienced, passionate & cause-driven leader to serve as Branch Exec at our Kirk Family Y.


As a valued member of our team, the Executive Director will provide leadership to a dedicated branch board and outstanding staff team, engaging members, volunteers, and staff in a unified effort to meet the needs of the communities we serve.

Nestled in the beautiful Roanoke Valley of Virginia, the Kirk Family YMCA has an overall budget in excess of $3,000,000, a full facility including two pools, gymnasium, three group fitness studios, and an expanded youth center.  With the support of a strong 20 member Branch Board, an excellent staff team witheight full-time and over 100 part-time employees, the Kirk Family YMCA has a bright future. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

 

  • Coordinates the development of the branch staff and committees. 
  • Directs the financial development activities of the branch.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.  Develops, maintains, and models collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, and supervision of staff and volunteers.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the branch operating budget and meet or exceeds budget targets.
  • Develops and directs high quality relationship-based member engagement strategies. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation to develop community-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of all facilities and equipment.
  • Collaborates with Association Marketing Director to effectively communicate benefit to the community.
  • Serves as a member of YMCA management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge.
  • Evening and/or early morning, and/or weekend hours required periodically.  Occasional travel required.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Skills/Experience: 
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit organization.
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and management of branch budget, community relations, and program development.
  • Experience in Board development and volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with individuals, businesses, government, and community organizations.
  • Successful leadership in fundraising/financial development.
  • Passionate commitment to the YMCA mission, member engagement, and the YMCA values.
