The Youth Coordinator is responsible for overseeing various program areas within the youth, teen, and family department including but not limited to sports. The incumbent provides quality customer service and ensures a safe, fun, and positive environment within the youth, teen, and family program and department.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands youth programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Secures, schedules, and prepares athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
- Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
- Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials and coaches; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines, practice plans, and handbooks.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth sports program information, may organize and schedule program registrations.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Oversee the operation and staff of the Climbing Wall, while also providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all users.
- Assist the Youth and Family Director with employee scheduling, maintenance, and equipment upkeep.
- Attend mandatory staff meeting for all program areas.
- Recruits, hires, fires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Follow and ensure that all Risk Management procedures are followed
- Understand and have the ability to act on all emergency procedures
- Assists in managing program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Youth and Family Director
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience:
- One to two years related experience preferred.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of Child Abuse Prevention videos, CPR, First Aid, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Belay Qualified (preferred)
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
- Demonstrated ability to provide and model quality customer service, and effectively evaluate other staff
- Must be self-directed and detail-oriented
- Demonstrated organization and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
- Basic computer skills
- Evening and weekend shifts. Must be willing to have flexible working schedule.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform a variety of physical activities with program participants which may include, but are not limited to, walking, standing for long periods of time, running, throwing, swimming and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to travel locally to meetings
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $32,280.00 - $34,280.00
