YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is seeking a dynamic leader to support execellence in aquatic programming


The Regional Aquatics Coordinator has primary responsibilities for Detroit Swims and other functions to support excellence in aquatic programming for the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. For Detroit Swims, responsibilities will include managing all aspects of program delivery at the sites.  For association aquatics responsibilities will include administrative tasks related to Ellis & Associates licensing, oversight of branch program information in ACTIVE, Swim Team administration and support related to overall aquatic program development.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Detroit Swims:

  • Responsible for creating a fun and exciting learning environment for the participants of Detroit Swims and will manage all aspects of program delivery at the sites including compliance with program curriculum, volunteer recruitment and creating and ensuring a safe environmentBuilds  effective,  authentic  relationships  with  students,  teachers  and  parents;  helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Inform parents if any difficulties arise and  keep  them  informed  of  accomplishments  of  students. Encourages  parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  • Be the primary contact for the Site Liaison for each location.
  • Assist  in  the  identification  and  recruitment  of  volunteers  for  each  site.
  • Work  with schools/programming sites to identify volunteers to assist at each location.
  • Maintains  records  as  required  (conduct  pre/post  surveys,  attendance  tracking, registering participants in ACTIVE, meal program tracking and reporting, etc.).
  • Follows  all  YMCA  policies,  rules,  regulations  and  procedures,  including  emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Trains and supervises class aides/volunteers as assigned.
  • Organizes/puts   away/transports   needed   class   equipment.   Reports   damaged equipment for repair/replacement.
  • Follows all association guidelines for lifeguarding and swim instruction

 

Association Aquatics:

  • Work with the aquatic managers to ensure Active training is understood and implemented after the 2 Active trainings are attended at Metro.
  • Responsible for Aquatics quality control in Active for the association, ensuring that naming and descriptions are consistent and programs are opened on a timely basis.
  • Ensure that all association swim teams are properly registered for both Y-USA Swimming and US Swimming and assists branches as needed with these processes.
  • Ensure that all swim team coaches meet the necessary requirements and are registered appropriately.
  • Responsible for all administration of Ellis program including, but not limited to, ordering new and renewal licenses, scheduling classes, data input of license and class information, end of the year reporting and ongoing updates.
  • Responsible for ensuring the yearly in-service and lifeguard training calendar is updated in the Aquatics PMT site for each branch.
  • Supports the branches in program development and expansion as directed by the Regional Director of Aquatics.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Associates degree is required.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Ability to travel independently to various program locations throughout Metro Detroit for programming.
  • Certifications:  CPR  for  the  Professional  Rescuer,  AED,  Basic  First  Aid  certification  and Emergency Oxygen from ASHI or Red Cross.
  • Current YMCA Swim Instructor V6 certification (YMCA Swim Lesson certification obtained within 60 days of hire).
  • Current Jeff Ellis & Associates Lifeguard license (obtained within 30 days of hire).  Expectation to become an Ellis Lifeguard Instructor within 6 months.
  • Complete and pass the Starfish Aquatics “Aquatics for Children With Challenges” online training within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness at all times. Must  demonstrate  lifeguard  skills  in  accordance  with  YMCA  &  Jeff  Ellis  &  Associates standards at all times.
