Associate Aquatics Director-Aquatic Safety

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Associate Aquatics Director will be responsible for the management of the lifeguards and the development of offsite aquatic opportunities. The position delivers a relentless focus on organizational clarity, high performance and operational excellence to meet and exceed YMCA goals and objectives.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides excellent member service by promoting a professional image, maintaining a clean and safe enironment and using ListenFirst and other skills to actively engage assist and orient everyone they come across; understands the individual's goals and interests and takes the initiative to assist in achievement of those goals;
  • Develops, implements and oversees all lifeguard staff, including, lifeguard training, backyard pool program, aquatic leaders and pool rentals (non instructional);
  • Develops, manages and achieves the annual aquatic budget in ways plus-sided and sustained;
  • Supervises and evaluates the Associate Deck Supervisor;
  • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates all lifeguards;
  • Schedules and staffs all lifeguards; will appropriately schedule themselves in LG shifts if and as needed to manage budget;
  • Works to understand and is able to deliver to any community the Marketing/Membership Director's work in-department;
  • Develops new offsite programs according to the organizational and community needs;
  • Delivers and maintains excellent parent, staff and community relationships;
  • Participates in Branch and Association activiities including special events and fund raising;
  • Participates in trainings that benefit the position, they YMCA, and self-development;
  • Instructs classes and lifeguard training as needed;
  • Acts locally, regionally and nationally as leader in the Movement regarding aquatics expertise.
  • Prepares and submits bi-monthly payroll on a timely basis.
  • Holds orientation meetings for the lefeguarding opportunities for new participants at the beginning of every session;
  • Holds monthly in-service trainings and reviews for lifeguards;
  • Communicates effectively with their partner Associate Aquatics Director for Aquatic Instruction;
  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned. 
Educational Background: 
College graduate preferred; strong organizational, computer, communication and problem-solving skills;
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory and swim instruction to all levels and ages along with prior lifeguard experience;
  • Experience supervising staff and developing a pool and class schedule as well as the ability to develop and maintain good member and staff relationships;
  • Knowledge of budgeting and expense control required;
  • Working knowledge of Daxko computer program preferred. 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Must be a ble to work off hours and weekends;
  • Primarily working on a pool deck walking on wet slippery surfaces;
  • Noise level is frequently loud;
  • Must be able to ascend/descent stairs;
  • Must be able to remain stationary in an office position at least 20% of the time;
  • Occasionally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery;
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information while frequently communicating with staff, parents and members. 
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,000.00 - $42,000.00
