 The Downtown Branch of the YMCA of Greater Louisville is a 108,000 square feet facility, with a diverse membership population, serving approximately7,900 members. We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, Program Director that will be responsible for established Aquatic operations to include: Swim Lessons, Lifeguarding, Special Events, and other areas involved in the aquatics program department. The Aquatics Assistant Director oversees the management of programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development and financial development.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  • Establish strategic direction/vision for operations of the aquatic department, should include growth of adult and youth aquatic programs.
  • Recruits, hires, trains and supervises all staff including: program staff, lifeguards, swim instructors, First Aid/CPR instructors
  • Ensures that all required monthly trainings and drills are completed and recorded
  • Oversees development and delivery of quality aquatics programs including youth & adult swim lessons, and a masters swim program.
  • Oversee programming for local schools and child care sites
  • Development and implementation of an annual program calendar for adult sports programs.
  • Develop, manage and monitor department budget.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports regarding programs and operations as needed; ensures compliance with all state and county regulations
  • Ensures excellent customer/member service and meet Association standards
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the charitable work of the YMCA and accepts a leadership role in the activities and events of the YMCA Annual Campaign
  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign, including volunteer recruitment and development
  • Develops relationships in the community that have a positive impact on programming and fundraising
  • Participates in branch volunteer committees and advisory board. Develop promotions that recruit and develop program participants
  • Participates in Association Aquatics cabinet to ensure consistency and quality in aquatic programs and facilities
  • Establish vision and systems that ensure safety across all aquatic and program endeavors; lead collaboratively to provide systems that achieve sanitary conditions, safe environments, program excellence, and member service excellence
  • Actively participate as part of the Downtown leadership team
  • Continue to serve the community with growth of CPR & First Aid program offerings
  • Completes required abuse risk management training. Adheres to policies and procedures related to appropriate boundaries with children.  Monitors building, staff and members and reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to supervisor.   Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements to authorities.  
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate work experience in aquatics and/or recreation preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Current Lifeguarding Certification, which includes First Aid, CPR professional level, and Emergency
  • Oxygen Administration (YMCA Lifeguarding preferred)
  • Experience working with children and adults
  • Experience supervising and training adults
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to develop staff
  • Ability to communicate through multiple generations and formats
  • Ability to generate positive revenue through programming
  • Pool filtration and maintenance experience preferred
  • YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification preferred
  • YMCA Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred
  • Current Jefferson County Board of Health Certification required within first 30 days
  • 2-4 years of supervising minimum or 6 person staff team
  • Experience managing a budget preferred
Compensation/Benefits: 

STARTING SALARY:  $14.50/hr+ based on experience
