Executive Director, Florida Youth in Government

Under the direction of the CEO of the Florida State Alliance, the Executive Director will oversee the development and execution of the Florida State Alliance of YMCAs Youth In Government Program. This includes developing and maintaining a program identity and culture.

Since 1936, the YMCA Youth In Government (YIG) program has given students around the country the opportunity to serve as part of a youth-run, youth-led model government process. The YIG model government process is designed to prepare students for a life of engaged and active citizenship built on the values of civil debate, statesmanship and research-based policy solutions.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for the overall growth and success of YIG through proper marketing and promotion, program development, membership recruitment and retention.
  • Responsible for securing sufficient revenue to provide services to members consistent with established goals
  • Coordinates and assists in securing contracts for facilities and services, including equipment for programming, hotels, etc.
  • Oversees the administration of state-level Youth In Government Programs and Events
  • Complies with Florida Department of Education grant requirements including timely application, reporting and financial management
  • Develops yearly budget plan and financial reporting schedule
  • Supervises, develops and evaluates staff and volunteers
  • Identifies and pursues additional funding opportunities and program growth opportunities
  • Develops and implements strategic plan
Educational Background: 
4-year degree from accredited college or university preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 years minimum as a program manager, preferably working with middle and high schools
  • Knowledge of youth development & civics education
  • Experience with office and budget administration including staff management and task/project delegation
  • Experience working with teens and adults preferred
  • Experience with a non-profit or a school setting
  • Experience working remotely both independently and with a team
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Experience with curriculum development and training
  • Experience w/contract negotiation
  • Overnight travel and weekend work required
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $50,000.00 - $62,000.00
