Outreach and Conservation Coordinator and coordinates outreach, volunteer engagement and visitation of all kinds at the Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve.
The Outreach and Conservation Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating and execution of onsite visitation at the Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve. This position is responsible for planning and coordination with other TNC programs and external partners, visiting scientists, donors, volunteers, stakeholders, visitors, contractors and vendors to facilitate onsite visitation. Tasks include but are not limited to planning agendas, leading meetings and tours, providing visitation information to guests, coordinating food & beverage needs, housekeeping, accounting and budgeting, contract management, administration, and safety and tracking visitation. The position serves as an important external communicator for the Preserve to key audiences and will work with staff to develop and deliver strategic messaging to visitors. The position coordinates Preserve staff in the planning and execution of visitation events. The Coordinator also ensures the maintenance and cleanliness of preserve areas frequented by the visiting public and coordinates multiple projects, sets deadlines and manages to completion.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Performs tasks with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
- May supervise technical administrative and professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training and development.
- Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
- Exercises independent judgment.
- Ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively with preserve visitors; leads preserve field trips and directs workdays.
- Provides the guest facility with full range of history programs and naturalist guided excursions.
- Willingness to work long hours including weekends and holidays and maintains a professional operation in a rural setting.
- Develops and works within a budget.
- May work in variable weather conditions at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
- Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
- Experience managing staff or volunteers. Relationship building experience to work closely with a variety of partners, i.e., media, government officials, internal scientists.
- Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation
- Experience in written and verbal communication including public speaking.
- Experience in MS Office, Word and Excel, advanced computer functions and navigating the Internet.
- Database management skills with ability to produce reports.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross cultural experiences appreciated.
- 3 to 5 years of recent experience in natural resources, hotel/lodging management or other similar field, guest facility or equivalent combination.
- Marketing experience.
- Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
- Familiarity with principles of land acquisition or similar asset acquisition.
- Knowledge of ecological land management and fundraising principles.
