Our next Associate Executive Director will have an entrepreneurial passion and be highly goal oriented with proven experience in both fitness and membership sales/service. They will have a strong skill set in motivating teams and holding them accountable to a superior level of service.
Under the direction of the Central City/Downtown Executive Director, the Associate Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Downtown YMCA (satellite facility of the Central City Y), including attracting, engaging and retaining members. This position provides Cause-Driven leadership in associate supervision/development, fiscal management, membership and wellness program administration, facility & equipment stewardship, community relations and personal-professional development. Responsible for leading and growing the Downtown Center operation from 700 units to over 1,000 units. Key areas of responsibility include: expand membership and enhance engagement through quality programs and services, build community relations/partnerships, and ensure effective communication and coordination between the Downtown center and the Central City Family YMCA. This position ensures that membership and wellness administration operates efficiently and employs a continuous improvement model to meet/exceed targets for member satisfaction, membership mix and budgeted membership and wellness revenue and net.
Membership & Wellness Program Quality/Growth
- Achieves all established goals and objectives set forth in the growth plan for the Downtown Y, as well as association scorecard targets, including net promoter scores.
- Collaborates with the Membership Executive, association marketing team and Executive Director to execute enrollment and marketing plans for the center.
- Oversees the leads/follow-up process to convert all prospects to members
- Leverages marketing resources and drives frequent/regular community, web and social media communications and engagement
- Ensures all Tampa Y standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
- Ensures all staff members are properly trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures.
- Ensures the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds and equipment.
- Actively participates in the Downtown/Central City leadership team as well as the Membership and Wellness Cabinet groups.
- Serves as the Center Wellness/Fitness Director and leads all fitness/group exercise associates, programs, and wellness initiatives
- Leads Partners in Health (group sales programs) specifically to the downtown business community and develops engagement opportunities to connect the downtown Tampa workforce to Y programs.
- Plans, develops, and implements wellness programs specific to the downtown business community and the “time sensitive” member/future member - leveraging the Central City Family center when possible.
Fiscal Management
- Manages/provides oversight to the center budget, managing to/within revenue and expense targets
- Prepares and updates revenue and expense forecasts to center budget as needed
- Updates weekly membership sales reports, identifies trends in staff closing ratios and addresses both shortcomings and successes.
- Follows up with all CBO reports for credit card expirations, terms and other high-risk memberships
- Follows up with ALL Listen360 detractors
Team Leadership
- Provides leadership to all center staff members, serving as primary supervisor to hire, develop, motivate, influence and retain a committed team passionate about the YMCA's mission, safety and service to members, and the Tampa Y promise.
- Provides leadership to all center staff members to create and maintain meaningful and impactful relationships with the members, program participants, volunteers and community leaders.
- Assists in all areas as assigned
- Attends all meetings and conferences as assigned by supervisor
- Leads and participates in all projects, design teams, and innovations as assigned by supervisor.
- Provides leadership over all Tampa City Y Operations in absence of the Executive Director as assigned.
- Two years leading fitness center (floor) programs and group exercise programs in a YMCA or similar operation
- Minimum of two years of experience in business operations, growth and development, community involvement, relationship building, program/business line development, staff selection, supervision and development, and day-to-day enterprise management (Fitness/YMCA operations preferred)
- Demonstrated skills in fiscal management, prospecting, sales processes, closing sales
- Highly motivated with the consistent ability to meet or exceed goals, cultivate and retain members and associates
- Ability to quickly build rapport and develop effective relationships with members, volunteers, prospects and others to achieve goals.
- Consistently self-driven and goal-oriented with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.

- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.

- Proficient in using email, Internet, and other PC-based applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, customer service/tracking applications) with the ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
- Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen Administration.
