Winchester Youth Service Bureau branch of the Northwestern CT YMCA seeks a director to oversee the operation of a Y Social Services/ WYSB branch, including counseling services & programs, volunteer and staff development, financial development, marketing, community relations and collaborations with community agencies.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coordinates the activities of the advisory council.  Directs the volunteer activities of the WYSB. Works with advisory council chair to set agendas.
  • Directs the financial development activities. Leads annual letter writing, face-to face and special event fund-raising. Seeks out and writes grants to continue and grow the level of services.
  • Represents and promotes the WYSB in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Ensures adequate town funding. Develops, maintains, and models collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  • Supervises hiring and development of staff and directs programs of the WYSB including: therapeutic recreation, counseling, therapeutic summer camp, JRB, mentoring and other WYSB events, programs and services.
  • Assess crisis situations and respond appropriately and in a timely fashion.
  • Conduct individual or family counseling sessions as deemed appropriate following an evaluation; refer out those cases deemed inappropriate for the WYSB.
  • Implement and oversee the “Darkness 2 Light” initiative.
  • Develop “Reach & Rise” youth mentoring program.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the operating budget and meets budget targets.
  • Directs strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan of the WYSB.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation to develop community-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies. Seeks out new funding sources. Ensures adequate case load for staff team.
  • Directs public relations, marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate benefit to the community.
  • Model the YMCA core values of caring, honest, respect and responsibility at all times.
  • Serves as a member of the Y Association senior management team and supports the overall objectives of the Association and functions as requested by the CEO.
  • Programs operate primarily at the Winsted Branch Y located in beautiful Northwestern Connecticut, which is unparalleled in its access to outdoor activities in all seasons- skiing, curling, biking, boating, hiking, running.
Educational Background: 
Master's degree in human services or social services AND licensed marital and family therapist (LMFT), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) or licensed professional counselor (LPC).
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five or more years of related work experience in a non-profit, higher education or non-profit organization.
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Ability to see, speak & hear, walk, have a valid driver’s license, lift 30 lbs. and be able to use a computer and telephone.

Required Certifications

  • Master's degree in human services or social services AND licensed marital and family therapist (LMFT), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) or licensed professional counselor (LPC).
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $50,000.00
