The YMCA of Greater Richmond is seeking a committed, experienced Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic leadership to our association; overseeing accounting, finance, and risk management functions; and ensuring continued fiscal success of our association.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • The CFO is a strategic leader who works closely with the senior leadership team and strives to ensure the strategic goals of our organization are met.  They provided leadership and support to business operations and the implementation of strategic objectives.
  • Leads the operations and staff of Accounting/Finance department.
  • Produces accurate, timely accounting records in accordance with internal policies and generally accepted accounting principles. Oversees external financial reporting, including the annual audit and form 990.
  • Develops management reporting including statements to the Board of Directors and Committees. Leads the Fiscal Management, Investment, and Audit Committees to develop policies and procedures, monitor implementation, and provide support.
  • Maintains internal controls throughout the Association, monitoring compliance, and implementing improvements.  Oversees corporate governance, contractual arrangements, legal issues, and documentations.
  • Responsible for the management of the association debt portfolio including taxable and tax exempt issuances, investment instruments, and leasing.
  • Oversees financial forecasts, pro forma projections and financial impact evaluations, and develops annual operating budget working closely and strategically with the Chief Operations Officer.
  • Serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, working collaboratively as a strategic partner with the CEO, COO, CAO and VPBO.
Educational Background: 
A college degree is required, study in accounting/finance or related area is desirable and an advanced degree in finance or MBA preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • The successful CFO will be a passionate leader who is a strategic contributor in a team environment. The ability to set priorities and manage multiple concurrent tasks is essential, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, continually evolving environment.
  • The chosen candidate will be skilled at teambuilding, staff leadership, and providing support and guidance to branch staff in a multi-location environment. Must be able to lead and contribute in a team environment, manage change, and embody long term perspectives. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation skills, analytical and financial abilities, organizational, problem-solving, negotiation, and computer skills are necessary. The successful candidate will have experience working in a multi-location environment and the ability to oversee and manage centralized as well as decentralized accounting, financial, and risk functions.
  • A minimum ten years of direct accounting/finance experience are required.  Senior financial leadership experience with multi -division/location entity with revenues over $40 M is preferred.  Non-profit and/or YMCA experience desirable, but not required.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Benefits: Twelve percent employer paid retirement after vesting plus medical, dental, and free school-age dependent care benefits.  The Y of Greater Richmond supports conference attendance and on-going training and education. Free family metro Y membership and select free Y programs.
