It is the objective of the Stonestown Family YMCA to support healthy lifestyles by reaching out and engaging all those who seek well-being of spirit, mind and body. This position supports this goal by developing communities in group exercise classes, supporting Health Seekers, and developing/coaching Group Exercise Staff/Volunteers. This role is responsible for overseeing all group exercise classes including Mind/Body, Cycling, Outdoor Exercise, Water Fitness and other group exercise modalities. This position is responsible for program development, staff recruitment and training, program supervision and evaluation, budget development and management, and communication with members and staff. The Director must have excellent communication skills both written and verbal. The Director is part of the Branch Leadership Team and leads annual fundraising campaigns. The Director will maintain instructing regular group exercise classes weekly, and be available to substitute as needed.

- Coaches and develops staff. Responsible for hiring, training, evaluating and developing Group Exercise (Land and Water) staff and volunteers to ensure high quality programming that meets the needs of our diverse community. Connects staff to the mission of the YMCA and the meaning of their work. Provides opportunities for ongoing education, mentoring and practicing relationship-building skills. Ensures staff certifications and trainings are up to date. Develops strong sense of team and provides staff recognition and support. Plans and conducts regular in-service trainings and continuing education workshops. Ability and interest in coaching and mentoring a staff team.
- Develops and evaluates program curriculum and policies. Ensures inclusion of intentional relationship building elements. Ensures quality classes and programs are delivered with appropriate curriculum and meeting safety standards.
- Conducts regular evaluations. Ensures opportunities for listening based assessment. Develops ongoing system for instructor and staff evaluation and feedback.
- Cultivates relationships with program participants. Develops opportunities for members and develops systems for volunteerism.
- Identify/remove barriers to inclusion. Ensures class and program environments are welcoming and accessible.
- Maintains a tracking system for participation, attendance.
- Supervises program schedule. Ensures program is relevant, meets member and community needs, and keeps in line with industry trends. Maintains seamless programming with cancellations and interruptions kept to absolute minimum.
- Effectively collaborates and communicates with other departments. Works in concert with other branch departments to ensure members are taken care of on their journey to health, including providing classes at Afterschool Program sites, as needed.
- Facilitates / leads groups, including instructing classes regularly, and substituting as needed.
- Develops and maintains budget. Excellent fiscal stewardship. Oversees equipment including maintenance and upkeep.
- Interprets the YMCA mission to the members, volunteers, and community and ensures thoughtful implementation
- Establishes strong communication systems with all YMCA staff and facilities.
- Maintains excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Leads staff team in promoting Annual Fundraising Campaign.
- Work with leadership to exceed standards in all facets of operations including audits, financial goals and member and staff satisfaction measurements.
- Ensures participation in the appropriate YMCA of San Francisco’s association teams.
- Interprets the established objectives and policies of the branch and the Association to employees and volunteer leaders. Maintain membership and program records & statistics. Prepare necessary monthly and annual reports on activities to monitor progress & plan strategically.
- Introduces new programs to the YMCA membership. Stays in touch with current trends and technical developments to keep programming innovative and exceptional.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in related field.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- YMCA approved CPR/First Aid Certification.*Within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to teach multiple modalities of Group Exercise with national certifications in Group Exercise Instructor in one or more of the following disciplines: Yoga, Pilates, Cycling, Strength, Outdoor Fitness, Dance (examples include: AFAA, ACE Group Exercise, PMA, RYT, Yoga Fit, Cycling Certification: Power/Watts based training).
- Proficient in computer software and data collection technology.
Salary: $58,593.00 - $60,000.00
