The YMCA first opened its doors March 23, 1886 in the parlor of the Presbyterian Church.  Today, the board of directors is close to completing a multi-million capital campaign to construct and open a new facility to expand programs and services to the greater Winona community!    

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Y board seeks an experienced leader who has the requisite background and skills to achieve excellence in the following areas:

Enhance Operating Performance with a Focus on Fiscal Health & Service Expansion: 

  • Assess all aspects of the current operation and create a plan that will continue to improve the current financial performance by growing membership and programs in service to the community. Use financial analysis to forecast financial trends, growth and stability, while consistently leading organization to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff to lead their departments to successful financial operation. Work with the board to develop annual and long-term plans for achieving key goals and objectives.

Lead and Build the Staff Team:

  • Serve as a leader who can hire, motivate, engage and reward staff in a positive and productive manner. Lead by example; remain actively engaged in staff development and performance leading to superior results in programs, member satisfaction and community outreach and engagement. Maintain a culture of integrity, high ethical standards, and values.

Capital Development & Opening Building: 

  • Lead Y through final stages of a current capital development project to build a new facility. Also guide all aspects to successfully open new facility on budget and on schedule.   

Create a Strategic Plan That Drives Innovation and Has Bold Impact: 

  • Lead a collaborative process by involving various Y stakeholders to create and implement a strategic plan that aligns with the mission and vision of the organization. Serve as an innovator who drives bold impact to address the community’s critical social issues while positioning the organization for sustained success. Throughout the process, create strategic and successful relationships with influential leaders, potential donors, members and organizations in the community, with an eye toward leveraging those relationships that will be mutually beneficial to those involved.    

Lead Fundraising Efforts: 

  • Serve as the leader in fundraising efforts by working with the board to establish a plan for how the Y will complete the capital campaign, expand endowment and increase annual contributed dollars for operations and providing financial assistance. Ensure public and private partnerships and resources are developed to support operational and future needs by instilling confidence, credibility, and trust in the Y with community leaders and donors.  
Educational Background: 
Accredited 4-year college degree (required/non-negotiable).
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization/company.
  • Proven successful track record of fiscal management for a complex organization exceeding $1M annually.
  • Successful fundraising experience in annual and capital campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
  • 6Proven ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered and effective in broadening engagement in the community.
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership and communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
  • YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (Note: Candidates not in possession of this certification have up to three years to obtain via Y-USA).
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000  

Benefits: Health insurance, long term disability, life insurance, wellness, PTO, holiday & grievance pay, family membership, reduced program fees, cell phone reimbursement, laptop with dock.  YMCA contributes 7% retirement contribution and employee contributes 5% per eligibility requirements (www.yretirement.org).
