The Aquatics Manager-Programs is an essential leadership position at the YMCA of Asheville. This highly visible positiion significantly influences the quality and success of the downtown Asheville aquatics program. This role ensures a safe and effective aquatics program for two busy pools. Under the direction of the Senior Programs Director, the aquatics manager drives revenue and participation goals in all aquatics progams. He/she oversees policies and procedures and is a key driver of the YMCA mission in downtown Asheville. He/she trains and leads a diverse aquatics staff and works closely in coordination with the Aquatics Manager-Lifeguards/Safety to provide safe and effective aquatic programming to the Asheville community.
- Drives participant and member engagement and program quality through the coordination all phases of center aquatic programming: Scheduling, supervising swim instructors, managing instruction, evaluating the effectiveness of programs, and recommending substantive changes in curriculum or procedures to the Senior Program Director.
- Able to work evenings and weekends. Able to be on-site during high aquatic programming times.
- Assist in the development of the program area budget and manage the day to day programing to drive revenue, program service goals and manage expense targets.
- Serve as a member of the Manager on Duty rotation at the Asheville center.
- Organize special events as assigned and help lead fund raising activities to strengthen the Asheville community.
- Participate in center leadership team meetings and association task force meetings.
- Work closely and harmoniously with the Aquatics Manager-Lifeguards/Safety in supervision of aquatics staff and overall management of the aquatics area.
- Through coordination with the Senior Program Director and co-aquatic leadership, manage the aquatics department budget. Continuously display effective and efficient fiscal management. Submit monthly variance reports and accurate budget forecasts.
- Outside of duties listed here, perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Program Director and executive leadership.
- The Aquatics Manager-Programs may be called upon to perform other occasional duties to further the interests of the center outside of the area of Swim and will play a role in the implementation of the Center Member Retention Program by serving as a resource for members interested in aquatic programming.
- Understand the Y’s vision and philosophy and how they support each other. serve as an essential team member who can solve problems and communicate positively with members, give tours, share knowledge about YMCA programs with members and the community, and work well with others.
- Establish program activities and expand program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Aquatics Manager -Programs must be able to:
- Remain alert, with no lapses in consciousness.
- Experience working with the public
- Must have demonstrated good customer service skills.
- Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
- Must be able to fully and competently enter data into the membership computer system.
- Move to various locations in and around the entire facility.
- Sit for extended periods of time, including in an elevated chair.
- Ascend and descend ladders.
- Hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment. (Significant background noise may exist in the aquatic environment.)
- Perform all required movements, and proficiently demonstrate all skills of the YMCA Swim Lessons Program or equivalent national certification.
- Communicate verbally including clear and understandable speech and good voice projection.
- Observe all areas of the aquatic area.
- Must be 21 years of age or older, preferably with previous supervision and swim lessons or coaching experience.
Aquatics Manager-Programs must hold and maintain current certifications in the following:
- Accredited Swim Lesson Instructor (YMCA, ARC, or equivalent)
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications
- Emergency Oxygen Administration (O2)
- YMCA/Red Cross Lifeguarding
- YMCA/Red Cross Equivalent Swim Instructor Trainer (preferred)
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, & Oxygen Administration Instructor (preferred)
*All required certifications must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
Hourly: $13.90 - $15.00
